Hi all- Am new to the group. Am a SaHM (for now... looking for part-time work at nights and some weekends) of a 6 month old son. I quit my professional job to stay home with the baby. I could NOT leave my baby and the daycare prices made the choice easy.
I was one of those people that thought SAHM's had it easier than working out of the house. Gosh was I WRONG. I work harder now than I ever did before. From the moment my feet hit the floor am working.... laundry, laundry and more laundry. Fixing breakfast, cleaning breakfast up.... picking up from last night...making beds...and more before 9:00am.
The hardest part of being a SaHM for me is the feeling of being isolated. I have looked and looked for a Moms/playgroup in the area with no luck! |

Hi Katherine,
I just joined the group too...for the support. Also looking for a local group because of the isolation issue. I have been a stay at home mom since my son was born...2 and a half years ago. I was a college art professor, and was thrilled to be able to stay home with him. The isolation didnt hit me until we moved to the Atlanta area...where we knew no one! I've tried a few of the mom groups, but have found that clicks have already been formed and friendships formed. I'm still trying, but I know exactly how you feel. This is harder then most people give SAHMs credit for. Coffee, and lots of it...makes me a better, more fun mom. :) |

I completely understand. I have been a SAHM for 21 months now, when DS was born. It is so much harder than when I was working a professional job in an accounting firm, even during tax season.
As far as finding a moms group. Where do you live, maybe I can help you find something?
Have you tried: Meetup.com Craigslist.com mops.com (look for something close to your area) a general google search for either mom's group or newcomers groups www.cafemom.com Your church, if you go to one, may have a group Check with your OB, Family Doc, Pediatrician, the local maternity ward at the hospital (our hospital has a group for those under 1yr. and you can meet other moms with kids the same age) Success by Six (not sure if this is national or not) Salvation Army in our town has a playgroup weekly
If you want to email me the city you live in, I will try to help you find something. Having found even a small group of mom friends is what keeps me sane. I have at least a few people I can hang out with once or twice a week. It helps. |

Thank you so much for offering to help...thats so nice. I did try the Suwanee Meetup...(I live in Suwanee GA) but they never meet up. Strange I know. There is a close meetup a few towns over that seem to meet more...but their events are a bit far for a ten am meet for me. But I havent tried the other ones you mentioned. I'll give it a try.

I feel the same way as all of you do. Isolation stinks! We are now doing Gymboree and my son seems to really like it. He is 15 (almost 16) months old. |

A few places I forgot to mention... Our library has a great program for mothers with young children birth to age 5. You may meet up with other mothers there with kids around the same age and arrange a playdate outside of the library too.
Yahoo groups often have localized moms groups too. Just do a search on yahoogroups.com
http://www.expectantmothersguide.com/baby/atlanta.htm
Your craigslist has a few different ones under groups. You could even post that you are looking to start a playgroup in the area. That's how I found my first mom's group when I lived in a different city (where I knew 2 ppl, literally). It's free to post and you don't have to put any personal info.
I did a search for you and found tons of stuff. Some of these have a small annual fee. I know a group in our area that has a $20 fee and it's VERY worth it. I know I hate paying for groups and such, but it's worth it sometimes. Especially since they have more organized playgroups and activities usually. Hope this gives you a good start... I am sure that there are lots more. GOOD LUCK!!!

Keep searching...a mom's group is great! I joined one a month ago in my town and it has made me so much happier! I also got an at home job about a month ago as well. It is flexible and easy to do with kids! The company is made up of other moms, both SAHM's and working moms:) The support system is awesome! It is great because not only do I get support for the business but with motherhood as well. I can help you as well jaesproudmommy@yahoo.com or request more info at my site www.letsliveahealthierlife.com
Good luck and take care! |
