advanced? or do we just think so
My son is 4 1/2 months and is trying to crawl. He also started solids when he was 2 months old. He giggles when you talk to him and yet cries if i start to sound like i am hurt. ( only me not my husband tho). He will try and walk ( if we help him stand on the floor he will move one foot infront of the other) he has is fav. tv show and movie (as well as blankie). Some nights he will sleep thru the night and others he will wake up at 3. we just found that he is really tickelish!!!

If you're wondering if your son is advanced, enroll him in an activity center such as The Little Gym, or Gymboree (whatever is in your area). This way, you'll get a good idea of what other infants his age are doing and be able to decide by comparison. Typically, a child may be advancing in one area while being not so advanced in another (i.e. crawling/walking early, but not talking as well as his peers). Hope this helps.

My son is 10 mo., and he started a lot of stuff like that at around the same age as your son. He was lifting his head from birth, slept 11 hours every night since he was 2 mo. old. he would eat every 4 hours before sleeping through the night. he was up on his arms and kind of on his knees at 3 months. Showed signs of loving Elmo at 3 1/2 to 4 mo. Also he would do the same, put a foot infront of the other when held up. As a matter of fact he has been able to get around in his walker since he was 3 mo. old. He started eating at 3 mo. and has said simple words like mama, hi, bye since 7 mo. He has also already been saying dog. He got his first 2 teeth completly in at 3 mo. he is, like I said 10mo, and now has 5. Number 6 is starting to come through. He was rolling from back to belly at 3 mo. Belly to back took longer, he did not like being on his belly, so he would roll over and then just cry. He started smiling at 6 weeks. He also has been telling me no since 9 mo. Like if he is done eating he will shack his head and tell me no when I go to give him another bite. He has been finger feeding himself since about 7 or 7 1/2 mo. I think that is normal.

But he cannot stack blocks, he will not hold his bottle; he is able to just won't, he will not drink from a sippy cup; we are working on that one. So, I agree with the other person that they may excell in some things, but lack in others. Again I don't really know what is "normal".

I, myself, thought that maybe some of this stuff was early, but I don't really think so. If it was early, or considered advanced, I don't think it is by much. From talking to other moms their kids did most of this at close to the same age. This is my first, so I am not really sure. Another thing is my son was very big. We was 9 lb. at birth and that was 3 weeks early. They estimated that he would have been 12 lb. at least if left till 40 weeks. He then had a huge growth spurt and was pretty long. He has kind of slowed now with his growing, which is normal. He again is 10 mo. and is going into 24 mo. or 2T clothes. Don't know if that would have anything to do with it or not.

I would be really interested though if you find if any of this is considered to be early or advanced. Keep me posted. And good luck. Keep working with him.
