It is harder on you then it is on him. What we did because it was really hard on me at first when I put my son in his room I kept running in to look at him to make sure he was breathing. I set a time he was allowed to come into my room and that time is between 4-5 am if he wakes up before then he has to be in his bed, if after that he can come into our room.

I kept my daughter in our room well past 3 months because of my fear of SIDS. I was always checking her breathing during her naps. I new I wouldn't be able to handle her sleep in another room at an early age over night. After she was done using her bassinet, I rolled her crib into our bedroom and put it on the opposite side of the room. She was still close and it gave me comfort. You must go with your own feelings and make your own decisions. Too much advice and too many parenting magazines will cause you confusion. You cannot give the same advice to all mother's because our children are not the same. Raise him in the manner YOU choose!
