Hi,
I am the mother of a beautiful red headed little girl who just reached the toddler stage. Emily is very curious about everything and I would like some suggestions on how to entertain her and hopefully help her learn at the same time. She is 1 year old and into everything. |

Hello Sarah, an your Emily is adorable! =) That's about the age they do this, my two daughters (5 & 3) were like that and my son that's 13 months sounds like that.
I gave/give them toys to play with like blocks, things with sounds and active floor play works as well. I notice that all my kids at this age, like to play to climb things.
Is she walking, or trying to? I know I had a push toy for the girls when they were this age, and they liked that. I don't have one of those anymore, and bet my son would like that like his sisters did. No matter the age. I notice their always into EVERYTHING! With the more age they get, they get in depth with how they get into things and before you know it you can't find your car keys. LOL! If not a missing wallet, they so happened to find in your purse you had sitting out not thinking anything of it.
Enjoy her at this age, and anything that she can play with she'll enjoy. I found out that my girls, and my son like to bang things together. A spoon to a bowl they got, to toy on a surface. |

Hi Sarah, My daughter is 2 and I recently found out I should have been exposing her to different textures too; as well as new sounds. When she was 1 her favorite toy was my big exercise ball. She used to love laying or bouncing on it. And strangely enough this is really good for muscle development. Some great educational things are toys that make animal sounds, peek-a-boo blocks (they have letters on them and you can see inside, like E has an elephant inside whose trunk moves when the block does) , even something as simple as a ball can teach cause and effect. If you want something even more advanced; Emily is at a good age to teach baby sing language. The easiest way to do this is DVDs you watch together. Baby Einstein or My Baby Can Talk are in my opinion the best and held my daughters attention the longest. However you have to watch with her and sign the signs they show otherwise it's just like popping her in front of the tube. My daughter has a hard time with words but the sign language helps her tell me when she's hungry or wants to read a book or even wants to go for a drive. It really helps to be able to communicate especially when she doesn't have the vocabulary. Hope this helps. |

Thank you for all your wonderful advice. I started taking Emily to play groups and library story times and she is coming along great. She's always excited to see other kids and explore new places. |
