My daughter started pre-school when she was 3 1/2 years old. She started with two half-day classes. The first three months were torture dropping her off. The tears and everything else were almost unbearable, but by the end of the school year she was doing excellent.
I think that the two day program was just enough for her. Any more and I think that she may not have stuck with it. Our problem was that she was the first child and never went into daycare, so she wasn't as socialized as some kids or those that had siblings at home. In the end I wouldn't change anything if I could. I think that it worked out for the best.
Good Luck! |

Hi. Thanks alot for the advice. Thats exactly what i was thinking of. Only problem is there is only one school near us that offers 2 half days. all the rest are 5half days, or one that is pretty far for us, that is 3 half days. now the problem i am having, and i say problem but i mean i will give it a try, is it is an intergrated school. yes it has won all sorts of awards and is wonderful looking, clean, so many toys and a music teacher once a week, full gym, trips. Intergrated is when they mix all ages 3-5 and they mix some kids, well half who have some sorta special needs, mostly speech delays... nothing that u could pick out i was told and during my tour all the kids looked about the same...except for the age diff. I wonder if this will make a difference. Kaitlyn is an only child but VERY independent. she sat down with the class and i dont think she would have noticed if i had left for awhile!!! So in that way i am not worried. i spoke to my pediatrician and he said some kids do well in this environment and some dont but good to try it... I am trying not to be selfish. She is only 3.5 and i do want her home with me as much as possible to enjoy these times with her so i figured a good compromise would be the 2days. Do wish it was a more "conventional" school but i guess kids learn from all kinds and being she will be on the younger end of the spectrum she prob. will learn alot of what the older kids know. she is very social at the park and plays well with all ages..thanks.. love to hear ur oppinion on the integrated schools if u have any.. |
