my son is 17 months old almost 18 months and i would love to start potty training him but i have no idea how my mom had 2 girls so she cant help lol and my mother in law is great but not alot of help. i can get christopher to sit on the potty but he only pees when he stands up. : ) i have sat with him on the potty for an hour with toys and activities and nothing is working. I need some guidance on this situation. How can i motivate him to go pee pee in the potty. should i buy one of the expensive pottys with all the activities built in or go with the simple ones. i bought him one that palys a song when he pees in it but it also makes noise if you move it or drop something in it or anything thanks |

hi Amber, Oh my god your son is sooooooooooooo young yet to train at least from what my friends and my doc told me. I didnt really go full force til myson was just almost 2 . He doesnt like the fancy seats I just bought a regular looking traing potty and took off the top to put on the regular toilet . It has handles so he can hold if he needs too. Boys are very stubborn and more difficult to train. They say boys arouund 3 and girls alittle after 2. My son has been doing really well now(27months old) I made a chart with stickers and markers and when he goes he gets to go nuts on the chart, he gets m&ms and he gets to flush if he doesnt go he gets NADDA. He has yet to do POPPY . He stills doesnt even tell me he has to go yet. I have to put him on the toilet. So do not worry !!!!!!!!!!!! Your son is young keep letting him sit if he wants to no harm in that at all. But dont push him ! U dont want to scare him. Also ffrom what I have been told by the doc dont let them sit onthe toilet more then like 10 min or so. Dont let him think it is just a seat to play . he need to know it is a toilet to do his "business" or take him off. GOOD LUCK laura |

My son is potty training too. I think its easier to potty train a boy that young if you have an older child who just went through the process. Also the idea of buying an expensive one is great only if you have the money to waste. most of the time kids are interested in the potty just because it is a potty. my son is the third child in my family to potty train yet it seems that he is taking longer than the girls. For the first couple of months I took the trainee to the potty every 30 minutes just to get him/her used to the process that goes with it. Hope this helps! |

I have not gotten there yet, but you can get an inexpensive one and get a pack of stickers of their choice and let them be rewarded for going or sometimes if they truley attempted to go, by letting them stick one sticker on it at every successful session. Sorry about the run on sentencing. LOL |

Hi Amber, I have 3 boys and 2 of them potty trained by the time they were 2, I recommed "Once Upon a Potty" video, they have it for boys and for girls but it is a really cute cartoon that explains their body parts and has a catchy song to it. I would watch it with my kids in the morning and before bed, and after the movie i would sit them in the potty and see if they needed to go, many times they did go and it made them very proud. It definately takes a lot of patience and it took almost a month for them to get the hang of it. So sit back and let it progress, there's no rush and the more relaxed you are about it the better they will respond to it. Good luck. |

Hey Amber, my son started taking interest in go ing potty when he was about 20 mths. I got a little jar and put some treats like M&Ms, Skittles in it so whenever he went he got to pick out which color he wanted. This made him really excited and worked great for us. I also did not get an expensive potty seat I got a cheap one at Walmart that went right on the big potty. This way there wasn't a problem with transitioning from the potty chair to the reg one. Good Luck!

Hey Amber! I have a 4 year old little boy and a 16 month daughter. I followed Coles lead when we potty trained and he was in undies full time at 3 years old. there wasnt any stress. we did use the m&m's idea for incentive and that was a hit, even our dog got an m&m:) those books can really freak you out, just use them as a guide not too seriously. i dont see our daughter even interested in the potty yet. i might buy one of the cheaper pottys to just put in the bathroom and let her check out, no pressure, and see where that goes. thats how we started with cole. good luck! |
