i'm a single mom, and i became pregnant after i dropped out of college and was traveling california, living out of my car, trying to find myself. to find and make the changes i needed to make in myself, i felt that i needed to be away from people for a while, away from connections and distractions, finding peace in the open road and endless sky. but pregnancy forced me back to kentucky living in my parents' basement.
although i love my beautiful baby girl more than life itself, i wonder how i'll ever just have time for peace for myself when i have someone who depends on me for her every waking need. advice? |

Hi Kaitlyn,
I am a big believer in the power of relaxation and/or meditation. To me, they are one in the same, but I know people have their ideas about each of them.
Taking just 15 minutes per day to meditate can work wonders. It can be very simple, or more guided. Either way, it helps to get in touch with that center of well being that is available within each one of us. If you'd like a couple of examples directed specifically towards parents, I have written a couple here (click on meditation or relaxation): http://transformationalparenting.com/resources/
Single motherhood is definitely viewed as challenging and it is important to take time to one's self. However, you can do that in the presence of your child if necessary. There are ways, I promise... start by creating a little time for you and it will ripple out to your interactions with your baby and you will find new ways to nourish yourself :o)
