Won't Eat Vegetables :(
Hey everybody--I'm having an issue and I thought I would see what you guys think. I have an 8 1/2 month old daughter who LOVES to eat. When I started her on solids at 6 months she would eat anything. I did all the veggies first, then switched to fruits, and now I feed her combinations and whatever I feel like making that day. All of a sudden, she won't eat vegetables. The only thing I can get down her is sweet potato. The rest I have to mix fruit in with it to get her to eat it. I guess that's the only thing I can do--any other suggestions? Is anyone else having this problem? It's so frustrating! I tried giving her squash the other day and she got so mad about it we both ended up with squash all over ourselves. Help me!!!!

Briana, my son is 8 months old, and is starting to try feeding himself. I give him well cooked carrot sticks, cut lengthwise to him to feed himself. He loves being able to feed himself. Try this with your daughter. Maybe being able to do it herself will make her want to eat them. You could also try green beans, and when she starts to develop her pincer grasp peas and small pieces of squash.

Also, try giving her the veggies near the beginning of the meal, when she is hungry, but not first because she may have less patience if she is starving.

If she still doesn't eat many veggies, don't worry. She will get what she needs. Just continue to offer them and one day she will probably surprise you and start eating them again.

This was a problem at our house too. My son (11 months) didn't want any baby food - he wanted our food. So I did over cook everything and let him feed himself. I fed him jar food inbetween him feeding himself. Now he loves veggies and won't really eat fruit.
I also got him the Gerber graduates food...it is really soft.

i had the same problem with my son he loves to eat but wouldnt eat the veggies so i ended up alternating the fruit and veggie or yogurt and veggie. I would give him a bite of fruit or yogurt then the bite of veggie and so on until the meal was done and it worked really for us.Hope this helps

You guys are awsome--what great suggestions. I cooked up some carrots and peas this evening and I couldn't get her to stop feeding them to herself! This opens up a whole new world to me of soft fruits and vegetables that she can feed herself. Plus it keeps her occupied and is good for her motor skills. You guys rock, thanks!! :)

Glad to help, Briana. I learned a lot of what I know by asking more experience parents. I am happy to pass on anything that will help another new mom.
