feeding my five month old
Hello
I was just wondering how much you feed your 5 month old. She is taking the bottle and I have just started her on baby food, she has not had any trouble with the fruits and vegies I have given her so far except she did not like the peas. How many times a day do you spoon feed your babies? I just started mixing the fruits in with rice cereal and she likes that too. She is so cute when she eats and intently watches me eat when I am not feeding her that I did it twice so far today, gave her vegie this morning and just now mixed cereal and a fruit together and she is sleeping now. Any advice or other opinions from anyone....

Hi! My 5 month old son takes rice cereal twice a day (once when he gets up from his first nap, usually around noon, and once again before we start getting him into bed, usually around 6 or so) and we actually just started him on veggies. He still drinks about 24 oz. a day from the bottle and usually eats about 3 T. of the rice cereal. When I spoke with the doctor, they had recommended that around 6 months or so, you start getting them on a schedule of eating solids 3x/day, but still giving them cereal at 1 or 2 of those feedings. My question is how much of the rice cereal and veggies/fruits should they be getting...should he still be taking 3-4 T. of cereal each day, and if so, how much should I be giving him of the fruits and veggies (i.e. a whole container?). I guess I'm just not sure how much I'm supposed to give of each of the solids in addition to formula since they say at this age most of their nutrients still comes from breast milk or formula...

I started my son at 4 months cereal once a day, and then at five months twice a day with fruit and veggie just like you. It wasnt until about 6 months that I went to three times a day and started also giving yogurt with lunch. It wasnt much, about 2 tbls of everything and also offered juice/water mix with breakfast and lunch. The only thing my ped. told me was to make sure the majority of the diet is breastmilk/formula so I always nursed and then offered food 1 - 1 1/2 hours later. Good luck food is fun! We are eating graham crackers and cheerios now at 7 1/2 months and he loves sharing mommys food too!
