Feeding
Emily is now 9 month old and according to her docter she should be eating everything we are except peanut butter (The normal things until she's 1) but my 2 year olds doc didn't say this about her when she was that age! (we moved to a different area so their docs changed.) Sometimes Emily chokes on some food like mac and cheese and whatnot. When I was at the doc and told her Emily wasn't eating like that and seems to have a choke reflex or something... she almost had a cow. She asked me why and what have I been doing with her etc. etc.... (mind you this is the doc when their PCP is a CRNP and he's awesome. Unfortunatly sometimes he's not available and we get the doc) I'm at the point of asking her to leave and to have my DD's PCP come in since that's who I made the appt with. I had to do that about a doc that was helping our last doc out in their office. (okay, this seems to be getting confusing) Any suggestions on what to feed Emmy or share what your little 9 month old is eating.....

Welll. I don't know what other people do, but I definetelly did not feed my daughter when she was 9 month old what I was eating. I did buy her the 2nd stage babyfood at the grocery store and she loved it. They have many kinds of fruits and veggies. Then I bought her the baby cerel and mixed it with them to make it a little thicker. And formula. That was her meal until she turned 12 month, then I slowly started with regular food, first with soups, but cutting up everything in tiny pieces for her. And I switched her to organic cow milk. Even now, at 18 month I still buy the 2nd and 3rd stage fruits and mix them with baby muesli, oatmeal or brown rice for breakfast. This way I can make sure she starts the day with a healthy meal. In my opinion you can not always listen to the doctors. You are the mom, listen to your insticts. If you see that your baby is chocking on the food and not comfortable with it, it means she is not ready. Try to cut it up for her or put it in a blender. Good luck.

My daughter didn't start eating what I was eating until about 16 months, and even now, I certainly make changes in the meal for her. The key is to give things to your daughter that she WILL eat. As long as she is eating a well balanced diet, it shouldn't matter whether the food is pureed or whole. Some kids do better with solid foods than others, and some just don't like the textures of certain foods, which might explain the choking. My daughter never liked pasta at all until recently. Just keep trying new and different foods, and feed her what she likes.

Hi, I am a new member..I have twin 9 month old boys. They are eating the stage 2 and sometimes stage 3 foods. Mostly, I still have them drinking formula and eating the baby cereals. I have nervous about giving them real food so I haven't yet. I know they say it's okay but am afraid of boys choking. My doctor said no honey either. I know I didn't help but just letting you know I am in the same predicament.

I would agree with everyone else. You know your child the best. My daughter is almost 7 months old, and I have been making her food, buying some of the organic baby food. I have been pretty textbook as far as what I give her. Now I have added yogurt and chicken. She doesn't really like sweet foods, so lots of vegetables - I just steam them and puree them, now I am trying to leave them more chunky since she is starting to chew. Hope this helps and it getting better... Isabella has been teething, so she kinda went on a food strike, so it feels like I am starting over with the eating thing!
