Hi everyone....I have a 5 month old who I have been breastfeeding exclusively since he was born. I recently started school again and he will not take any bottle I've tried nor will he take it from anyone else. I'm going crazy. When I leave him with someone he will just refuse to eat until I come back to pick him up! Any crazy ideas? I've tried everything :( He won't even take a spoon from anyone else when they try to feed him rice cereal! Please help!!! |

My sister's son had the same problem and she ordered bottles that look like a breast (from A Step Ahead catalog--they probably have a website) and he will drink from them. They are extremely supple (instead of more rigid like most bottles, and since the body of the bottle is all rubber (more like a breast) it sort of "fakes him out". Hope this helps--good luck! |

We've used Breast Flow Bottles by First Years. You can get them at Babies R Us or order them online. They are also more like a breast and they worked well for us. Just a hint though - there are 2 nipples (an inner and an outer). The outer is clear and is easily discolored if you put it in the dishwasher. I called the company and they said it did not harm the piece, but they suggested avoiding the dishwasher if possible. Hope you find something that works!! |

take a deep breath! i don't have any personal experience since my little guy wouldn't take the breast and I ended up pumping milk for the first few months for him, so he was used to the bottle from about week. But I wanted to encourage you anyway! Going back to school with an infant is a HUGE deal and I think you're very brave to do so. Maybe if you put some of your breastmilk on the nipples before packing them up, he'll be attracted to the scent. I don't know...you asked for crazy ideas. Maybe it'll just take him getting hungry enough? All I know is that you're going to find what work and he will eat. Good luck and again, deep breaths! |

Hi Shannon, I have the same problem. My son is 11 months and I am still exclusively nursing but I had a problem leaving my son with my mother or even my my husband because he would not take a bottle at all from anyone. What I ended up doing is giving a him a sippy cup with pumped breast milk in it. I had my husband give it to him first to see if he would take it. Because it was different than a nipple he was able to gnaw on it a little bit and then finally drink from it. He didn't frink as much milk as he would from me but it at least held him over until I got back. Keep trying but don't aggravate him too much because he may not take to it the first time. ...Hope this will help you! Good Luck! |
