hello all I am Colleen and I have twin girls 11 months old. anyway they both do this thing but one is worse than the other ... she bangs her head against ANYTHING, the slider, a cabinet, her sister, toys ANYTHING and it's the front of her head or the side of her head (she is doing it right now) I try not to respond too much to it, as when I do she does it more and harder and I fear she could harm herself. her twin does it too but does tend to stop when asked (which she happens to be doing now against a large ball). I am at my wits end with this ... any advice would be GREAT thank you |

Hi Like u say this is just a bad habit, U are doing the best by trying to ignore them which is what I would do also unless it becomes really bad of course then u would need to step in. But I know my son did that just a few times I think in his life (hes 27months) and I know I did just what u did atthe time ignore and I remember when I did react he did it more. So have faith u are doing the right thing by tring to not react. Good lUck laura |

maybe they do it when they don't get their way, or maybe it's a comforting thing??? I guess I would ignore it and hopefully they'll stop doing it!! |

I had a friend whose child was a "head banger"--that term kind of made me laugh. He would sit against a wall and bang his head repeatedly against it. Her doctor told her that that it's just a thing that some babies do, and just to make sure he isn't doing it on a corner or something. She used to set him in his play pen, away from the wall, and let him bang his head until he got sick of it. It seemed so strange to her, but he eventually grew out of it. Kids just do strange things, as I'm sure we're all learning!! You might want to check with your doctor about it too. |

Thank You all for your input ... I have ruled out the "head banging" as a sign of tiredness, it could be frustration at times ... but it seems to be during play and very random and it is with a huge smile on her face, almost as if she gets a kick out of it ... they have their 12 month check up soon and I will address this with theri pedi then ... THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH |
