About two weeks ago my daughter said out of nowhere that she needed to go pee...so we put her on the potty and she has been pretty good at it since. At night she still wears her diapers, but during the day she is telling me when she has to go (for the most part). Today she went to school in her underwear and her teachers said that she didn't have an accident all day. Tonight though we took her out to run errands and what does she do but pee right on the floor in the middle of the store. I know accidents will happen, but I was mortified. I didn't let her know I was upset though. I just explained that we don't go potty on the floor. How did you handle it when this happened in public? I don't want to put diapers on her when we go out b/c I want to move forward with training and I feel that would send mixed messages. Also what is the best and cleanest way to get them to use public restrooms? Thanks for your help!
I hope this helps.. just keep encouraging your little one to let you know when she has to pee.. just keep reminding her that it is okay to let you know and it is okay to run to the potty anyplace she needs to. One time at the store mine leaked alot (this was before she was potty trained, and she peed about 3 times in a row while I was trying to get her to the restroom) but as far as it happening in public, I didn't let it get to me or my daughter.. other people will just have to understand these things happen. I never want her to think it's bad that she leaked but I just keep encouraging her to let me know if she has to go. It might help to carry some kind of small absorbent towel or papertowels along with a change of clothes when you're going to be out. As far as public restrooms I put my daughter on her own potty seat on top of those seat covers.. since not all places have them I sometimes grab a few from the restroom and just carry extras with me. Then I put hand sanitizer on her hands if she can't reach the sink.
