So here I am trying to plan a "small" wedding when I almost have an anxiety attack.... easily solved we will have a party/shower and we are going to Vegas instead.... So now I am stressing out about flying with a baby. She will be 13 months when we go (October) and I am hoping that she does well with the flight.... I know what you are thinking.... why am I taking my baby to Vegas and for 6 days at that.... he he he to my good fortune my Mom lives there so I have a vacation/honeymoon and babysitter all in one convenient place. So if she needs me I am there but we can still have our fun. So if anyone has ever flown with a 13 month old and has ANY advice please let me know, any games or toys that are helpful anything I am willing to try I am not sure but I am hoping for a straight flight. Thanks |

I know this isn't the most educational solution but a plane flight is with a little one is just about survival, right? My husband had the good idea of bringing his PS2 (travel playstation) on the plane with my then 13 month old son. We bought a $15 kids movie and it kept him entertained the whole trip. If you don't have a PS2 though, I recommend those little travel books that come in a box, lots of puffs, and lots of singing. Hope you don't have to sit next too anyone not family friendly. GOOD LUCK!! |

I flew with my son when he was closer to 2, but he was fine, by the time we got through the airport and onto the plane he was exhausted and fell asleep as soon as we took off, i took a few books for him to look at, and definately take alot of snacks and drinks! but as long as i was holding him on my lap he was fine, he just didnt' want to sit in his own seat, i hope this helps. |

Also remember that the babies ears may not handle the air very well so give your daughter something to suck on weather it be a paci if she has one or bottle or something. Just an idea. |

I remember reading about the sucking thing... right now I nurse I am not sure if I will be then it is up to her but if I still am it will be easier. Now is it both during take off and landing? |

when i talked too my doctor about it, he told me during both take off and landing, another thing my doctor told me was to give my son benadryl shortly before the plane takes off, it makes kids really sleepy and they are more likely to sleep through the trip making it much easier, but he also warned me to give it to him a week before and see how he responds to it, he said while it may make some children sleepy it makes a few really hyper and that is the opposite of what you want on the plane |

I was really nervous the first time I flew with my child for the first time and I was by myself. She did a lot better than expected. My biggest advise is that if you're real nervous she can feel that anxiety and might act out because of it. I also bought some new toys and brought them out during the plane fight. good luck |

There was actually just an article in Baby Talk magazine. It said if at all possible get a direct flight, if you have a stopover try not to do it during naptime that way your child can burn off some energy. Use an umbrella stroller in the airport it's smaller and more compact and if it gets lost or damaged your loss is less. Lol practice the lap change, so you can manage any non-poopy diaper in the back row of the plane! Lots of snacks, drinks, diapers & wipes! (And an extra shirt for you!) Take dvds, cd's & books. Make a tag along toybox. Using a bage/tote with lots of compartments pack it with fun stuff (if she likes to get into your purse you could fill it with fake credit cards, an old cell phone, keychain flashlight, snacks). Good Luck and have a good trip! |

I have done a lot of flying with my now almost 16 month old daughter! I have flown by myself with her at 2&1/2, 3,5,6,13,14,and 15 months! The purse idea works!! Also you might try a small roll of masking tape, maybe a brightly colored one! She can use it as a bracelet, you can stick a piece of it on her hand and let her play with it, she'll just have a ball with it and use it about a hundred different ways! And if you don't want to do that you could always give her a luggage tag to put on her wrist! My baby absolutely loved it!!! Nursing on take of and landing works a bit better than a passi if you can but if you can only nurse on one or the other I suggest landing! For some reason the pressure bothered her more then! And I have flown with a few different airlines, try to avoid South West there air pressure is the worst of all in my experience!!! hope it helps! |
