Hi all! My husband and I both work, but our schedules are not regular. For instance, over the summer, my husband's job is not in session, yet he still has work to do for his position. I freelance, and although some of my work schedule is set in advance, much of it is not. I also have work duties at home. So we have the luxury of not having to put our son into daycare an extraordinary amount, but find we must to get anything done. On to my question...what is the average amount for a child 1-3 years of age to be in daycare for working parents? The reason I am asking is that we will have a week or two next month when I am considering putting him in with our daycare provider for approximately 4 hours a day M-F. Forgive me for sounding naive, but is that a lot? He will be 20 months old at the time. Thanks! |

my son was unfortunately in daycare 50hrs/wk his first yr of life. It hurt to do that, but it was the only choice I had. Now he is 2 & in daycare about 28hrs/wk. A few hrs a day at that age should just help your son socialize. 20 hrs isn't so bad. :) |

Hi! I just re-read my post, and I feel stupid for thinking that is a lot of time in day care. I know most working moms have to do much more than that. But you're totally right...the only time he has to play with other kids his age is in daycare, so I am happy to put him there. Last year he cried whenever we dropped him off, but our provider says he stopped crying as soon as we left. I guess I have to hold on to all the positives! |
