Bedtime terrifies me!!!
I have a 2 year old little girl. She goes to her dads every weekend and while she's there she pretty much gets to do what she wants. She stays up until like 11 or 12 at night and then she comes home on Sunday and she thinks she can do the same stuff here. Lately, every time i put her to bed, she screams bloody murder until i go pick her up, but my husband has a 7 year old son, and he told me that if i give in to her now, she will expect it all the time. I hate hearing her cry! It makes me feel like a bad mother for not going and consoling her. I don't know how to handle it. Oh, but by Thursday she is an angel!! I'm going nuts. Please help!!!!

First you need to talk to your EX and ask him why he doesn't keep her on her schedule, tell him it is messing up her regular routine at home. Ask him if he could put her to bed at her regular time that that is what is best for her, tell him she doesnt get back on track until thursday. Maybe that's all it will take for him to help you out, it really would be helping your daughter out more than anyone.

Thank you so much. it is definitely harder than i thought it was going to be, raising a child, i mean. i don't want to make him mad. thankx for the advice though

If that makes him mad, than I feel sorry for you. I don't think that is asking to much, I would think that would be an easy thing to comply with for your daughter. Good Luck

Your husband is right about the giving in issue. She is probably screaming because she doesn't want to miss out on the fun. If you can't stand the screaming, go into the bathroom and turn on the shower for awhile. It drowns out the noise and is soothing. My girl will be 2 in a month and she used to do the same thing at bedtime but now she pretty much just goes to sleep when I put her down bc she knows that I am not going to come in and talk to her. If you feel you absolutely have to check on her, just open the door quietly and peek in...don't talk to her or touch her (unless she's hurt obviously).

hey amy. i definitely agree with you about the situation with sleeping. my girl cried for an hour and a half the other night and it hurt so bad to hear it and not go in and get her. i know if i give in to her now she will expect it every night. she only cried for 20 minutes last night so i think she is starting to get the idea that i'm not coming in to get her. thankx for the advice. and i am definitely going to talk to her dad tonight.

Yeah I think that is the best thing you can do, because once you get them into a rountine you don't want it to be broken, unless something comes up and that happens, like company or a late night from going to friends or whatever, but if it is taking you unitl thurs to get her back on her regular schedule after you have worked so hard to get her one, then I would say hey she can come to your house but she has to come home before bedtime if she can't be kept on her routine. I'm sure he would understand, I know there have been times when my son has gotten off his schedule because of company or whatever and oh my gosh it takes a few days to get him back to normal, when he doesn't get his sleep... whoa! he is a little monster. Good Luck

Hi Tina,

Glad to hear that things are finally working out for you bedtime wise. If you have your old baby monitor - dig it out. The next time she has her "fit" just step outside onto the patio, grab a book and tune into the monitor every five minutes or so until she quiets down and that will help with not having to listen to her cry and give her the sense that bedtime is bedtime, no exceptions. I know her dad messes up her schedule, but she knows that at your house you do things your way. She's two and she's smart and manipulative, trust me, I know my little girl tried that song and dance on me too!!

Best of luck!!
