Hello, I have a 5 week old baby girl. She only sleeps in 2 - 3 increments. She has had this sleep pattern since day one, shouldn't she be progressing to a longer sleep schedule? She eats like a little monster (formula fed). I hate wishing the time away but I am in dire need of some real sleep and I can't wait til' she begins to sleep more. A four stretch would be a dream come true. Any suggestions??? |

Our son didn't start sleeping past 3 hours until he was 3 months old. Trust me! I know how badly you need that sleep! He still doesn't sleep all night consistantly and he's 19 1/2 months!! If you're not having to work, try to rest or nap whenever your little girl does. It will get easier! |

Not having a longer speeping pattern is completely normal still at 5 weeks and much longer. If you want her to sleep more at night try to keep her up a little longer during the day, especially in the late evening just before going to bed, that way you may get a longer stretch after falling asleep. Again, all kids are different. My daughter began sleeping through the night at 6 weeks, and I know many 2 year olds who still do not sleep through the night. Be patient! Good luck to you, and hopefully you will get some more restful nights soon! |

As frustrating as it is, that is completely normal! It wasn't too long ago that I was in your shoes! My daughter was the same way, once she was 2-3 months old the increments starting getting longer. I also invested in "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child". That has good info and tips in it. Just hang in there! It will get better before you know it. |

Thank you for the words of encouragement. How will she "transition" into longer sleep? Will she just one night sleep 6 hours straight or will it be gradual? Does eating more indicate that she may start sleeping longer? I am just curious to what to expect. Thank you for any feedback. |

Hello, I am new and just wanted to say hello.
Also, I really feel for you. Everyone told me to sleep when my son did also, and I couldn't. That is when I felt I needed to get stuff around the house done. Well I tell you what, let the house wait, it will be there later that day or the next. It really does help to sleep when they do. Also eating a little more may make a difference on how long they sleep. I was blessed. From day one my son slept 4 hours and was eating 4 to 5 oz. by 5 to 6 weeks. He was a little big though, just shy of 9 lb. When he started sleeping 6 hours he just did it. It scared me to death. He was 2 months old, and I woke up, looked at the clock and realized he had not woke up. I was scared to death to go look in his crib. He has slept in his room in his crib since he was 3 weeks old. But during the day he still wanted to be feed every 4 hours. Hang in there and REALLY, sleep when she does. |

Yep, she will just start sleeping in longer stretches. I remember waking up, I am nursing, so I was ready but she was still sleeping! I will also agree that it is hard to sleep when my daughter was sleeping. But if you do, who cares about the house! My daughter is 7 1/2 months old now and mostly sleeping through the night (teething and stuff) she may wake up or not. It is really amazing how fast she has grown and changed. One day, hopefully soon, yours will suprise you by sleeping longer and you will find yourself checking and making sure she's ok. LOL |

Hi. I have the same problem. My baby will be six weeks old soon and I wonder when this is ever going to get better. People say that it just will. I am also breastfeeding so it feels like that's all I do. Your post is from two weeks ago so let me know if the sleep pattern has gotten better. I need to know if there's hope! Good luck! |
