Cornwall Playgroup
Public group from Cornwall, NY

Hey everybody!
Hi guys--I'm so happy that we actually have people who are part of our little group now. I wanted to see how everyone feels about starting a weekly playgroup? I currently take the baby lapsit classes at the Cornwall Library--they are free and great and something I would suggest to all of you. I have an 8 month old girl--how old is everyone else's kids? Please let me know what you would be interested in and maybe we could put something together! Yay! I'm excited!!

Briana, Hi! My name is Carla. My daughter is a newborn, so she might be too young for any gatherings. I would love to have some Moms to chat with, though. When she gets older I would like to start meeting with others to socialize. What are the lapsit classes? Thanks for responding!!!

Hi Carla--I understand not wanting to take your newborn out quite yet. Is this your first? The library classes are for newborn-5 years old, and they are separated, obviously, by age. My little girl is in the "not yet walking" infant class. There are babies there from 2 months to almost a year old, and all the moms sit in a circle and we sing songs, play instruments and read books to our babies. It's a great way to meet people and spend time with other adults. Are you going back to work or are you staying home? It might be something to consider when your little one is a bit older. Anyway, I am happy to offer any sort of support or advice that you need. I am a new mom myself but at least I've gotten a few months under my belt and I can help a little bit. I am out here in Cornwall with no family near so I have kind of built my own little social network so I don't feel so isolated. It has made a HUGE difference. Let me know if you need anything at all and we can post it here, or talk, or whatever!! Best of luck to you :)

Briana, Hi! Yes, this is my first. Do you have to live in Cornwall to participate in the lapsit groups? Or are they for anyone in the area? The groups sound great!! I am going back to work, but not just yet. I also have no family near, so I feel really isolated some days. I'm trying to build a social network and I want to thank you for helping. I don't want to sit in the house all day, yet, i really don't know where I can go with her. Right now we are having such a hard time getting her to sleep for more than an hour or so. Are my expectations too high? She seems exhausted and cranky when she is awake. Any suggestions? Thanks for everything and have a great weekend!- Carla

How old is your baby? I guess that would be my first question, and then I could tell you what happened with mine and some things that worked for me. I have learned that everybody's baby is different, so I'm always putting a disclaimer with what I say happened with my baby. I heard so many people say that my 5 month old should be sleeping through the night and I felt like such a bad mom--she didn't sleep through the night until she was 6 months old, and some people's babies start at 2 months! It can get really annoying. Anyway, it would be really good for you to get out and at least take a walk with him (her?) and it might lull them to sleep and get them to sleep longer. Consider it--I would go with you! My friend and I walk every single day, you could come along! Also, you do have to be a Cornwall resident to join the library classes but I think libraries all around have programs like that if you don't live in Cornwall. Where do you live?

I have a six month baby girl. I would love to get together with other moms in the area to talk, to go for walks or whatever. My only problem is that I am back at work already, so the only real free time we have is on the weekends. I know weekends are tough, but could we try starting out with something on the first or last Saturday of each month? If this works out we could try to get together more frequently. What do you think?

Briana, I have a girl. I live in the newburgh area, so I'll check for groups at the libraries here. Thanks for the info. Yes, We could get together for walks. That would be great! The car seems to work for getting her to sleep, but I'm still nervous about getting her out. I guess I have to lighten up. Ha! Diane- weekend walks sound good. Again, as i get more comfortable. I'm such a nervous nelly! Have a great day everyone!
