My son is 3 1/2 months old. When he was 5 weeks old, he started sleeping 11 hours straight through at night, and continues to do so. The teachers at day care are strongly suggesting that I send rice cereal to shool with him because he gets fussy during the day and they know it's because he isn't getting full. I know he screams when he's hungry (just like a normal 3 month old), but on weekends and evenings, he doesn't seem fussy to me other than that. Plus, I don't want to make any dietary changes that will effect his current sleeping schedule unless the doctor instructs me to (and i'm not looking forward to that). How do I politely tell them to drop it? |

Tell them that you called your pediatrician and were told not to start solids just yet and that if they think he is still hungry, they should offer more formula. Also tell them that as soon as you get the ok from his doctor, you will start bringing solids for them to feed him. That should end the discussion. |

Tell them that you checked with the doctor and he is totally against introducing solid at this stage. In the 60's in daycare they used to introduce solid earlier so kids will be quiter but they realize it was really bad for the digestive system. Sometimes what it seems more practical is not necessarily the right thing to do!

Stand your ground! Let them know that you are not going to start solids until your son is older and to simply give him more formula if he is still hungry. It is your decision to make when to introduce new things to your baby. If your daycare does not follow your instructions or tries to push the issue, maybe you should consider finding a new daycare. I had some issues with the first daycare I placed my daughter in when I first went back to work so I found another one and both I and my daughter are happy now. Hang in there! |
