Oak Park Play Group Wanted
Public group from Oak Park, MI

Young, single, stay at home mom, fulltime student
Hey there... we just moved to Royal Oak from North Dakota and I was really hoping to meet some other parents and join in on play groups. I'm a stay at home mom and any day of the week works for me. My son is 10 months old and I can tell his getting really bored with just me the past month. We havent had a chance to meet any other families yet because he has been teething miserably and the days he has been feeling well it has been raining so we havent really gotten out. I also am not familiar with the area...I know there are a lot of parks in the area but am not sure what types of indoor activities or centers are in the area that would be fitting for an infant. I would really like to get him some interaction with other children, I'm worried about him going to daycare this fall when I'm back in school... I want him to learn how to socialize with other kids. I would also like some interaction with adults...lol. If anyone wants to go to any of the parks in the area or go for walks or anything please let me know...I'm getting lonely out here :( Thanks

Hey Julie! Thank you for responding to my post! Welcome to Michigan! I had a friend from Montana who had lots of stories to tell about her life "up there" I bet ND is just as beautiful as she described Montana to me. I hope that Michigan will be able to give your family some great times too!
I completely understand if you would feel more comfortable meeting up at a park or something first. I am in Oak Park, not to far from you. My daughter is 20 months and we walk to the parks here in Ferndale everyday.
Have you been to the Royal Oak Farmers market yet on the weekend? Local farmers, soaps, dairy, salsa, herbs, flowers...flea market stuff. Sometimes there is a kid friendly band that plays in the mornings and invites all to sing along.

Are you into Yoga at all? there's a yoga place called "namaste" right down the street from the market that is really nice. They have baby and me yoga classes....

I have to admit that I too was/ am leary about meeting up with folks right off the bat from online. But to tell you the truth, none of my friends have kids, nor do the sibs on either side of our families. It made me a shy person in a way to feel that way. I was just telling my husband that shy ans lonely are a bad combination! (ha ha ha) I am just ready to put myself out there and see what happens. :-) I understand how lonely it can feel being in a new area and trying to make friends. I'd love to tell you about the places you could take the fam!

take care!
Allison

It would be really great to meet up sometime...the farmers market sounds like a lot of fun. I am into working out...I don't mind yoga...have never done it with a baby though, so that might be interesting. I'm not sure of what all the names of the parks are around here yet...I just have noticed that there are a ton of them. I haven't really even gotten out much since we moved here (about a month ago) because Wyatt has been teething and I think he is having night terrors (I think the move was stressful on him) so his sleep has been so goofy and therefor I haven't slept either and it has just seemed like to much work to do anything...lol. He's starting to get back on track now so I have some of my energy back. If you want to email me that would be fine. I'm free any day of the week to get together...so just let me know what works for you. Hope to hear back from you. Take care.
