Hey there....just moved to Royal Oak, MI and haven't met anyone in the area yet and was hoping to meet other parents or single parents online...maybe have playgroups or something...or just have someone to talk to that can relate to being a parent. |

We moved from rural North Dakota...lol. So, as you can imagine, now living in suburban Detroit is quite shocking. I'm definitely on edge all the time out here. We live in a very nice neighborhood, but I'm still not used to being surrounded by sooo many people. It's been really hard to get out and about to try and meet people so far because my son is teething and has been miserable...and the days that he's been feeling well it has been raining so going to the park is totally out of the picture. I found some play groups online a few weeks ago, but no one can ever show up. I'm getting pretty lonely out here...I havent really had an adult conversation in a while because my boyfriend is always at work, studying, or working out. And, to top it all off, my cell phone went to hell and the nearest Alltel store is over 50 miles away. I've been having some really crappy luck...lol. Anyways...my son just went down for his morning nap so I've gotta try and get showered and ready before he wakes. Stay in touch! |

Oh wow. I can believe being in the Detroit area would be a shocker compared to N. Dakota. Did you grow up in N.Dakota.? Can i ask, what made you guys move to michigan.? what kind of weather during the winters did north dakota have? was jut wondering if you would be used to the snow, and all that which michigan gets during the winters. How old is your son? My son just turned 13 a couple weeks ago. They start school in about 5 weeks on august 11th. I can understand the not knowing anyone. we had moved to az because we weren't having any luck finding employment where we were living. But, both of us really haven't met anyone as its such a big city and is hard to meet new people to get together with and make friends with. I don't often like to get together with people at work outside of work. only because if for some reason some sort of falling out happens and than you still need to deal with them at work. Plus, you see them soo much during the week, who wants to see them on the weekends too, you know.? But at this point it'd be better than not knowing anyone. hehe. So i can understand being in adult conversation withdrawal. how long have you and your boyfriend been together..? I hope things get better and you are able to get your phone fixed.
laura.. p.s. do you want to exchange emails..? |

Yep...I did grow up in ND. I loved it...living on a farm as a child was so much fun. We moved here foy my bf's job. He just graduated med school and is doing his residency now for emergency medicine. We have been together for a little over a year. We met when I was about 5 months pregnant and started dating shortly after. He's a really great guy...I'm very lucky to have met him. Where in Michigan did you live? Did you grow up in MI? We will only be here for 3 years (that's when my bf will be done with residency.) We will be moving back to ND after that as he has signed a contract with one of his hometown hospitals to work there after residency. It's really nice to know that we will be going back hom after this and that he has a job secured and wont have to be flying all over the country for interviews and whatnot. I will be finishing undergrad out here and then hoping for grad school after that. We will see how well I can keep up my grades without any family out here to help watch my son. That's what really sucks about moving so far from home. I'm hoping that I will be able to find a good daycare that is not too expensive. May I ask what you do for a living? And how's the new job? I understand about spending time with coworkers outside of work...I took a few years off from school and was working full time running 3 construction companies. I loved the job but I wanted to have a degree as back up in case I wanted to move or switch jobs. Anyways...this is getting long and my son is getting hungry. I think you asked how old he is in your last message....he is 10 months old. Have a great weekend...here is my email....
