ENT
Well today we had Andrews ENT appointment for his speech delay and they said his ears look good but since it has been almost 2 years since his last hearing test we need to get another to check his hearing again. So we have to wait for them to call and schedule his appointment with Arnold Palmer, thats where we have to go because of his age. So we wait again and see what the tests reveal.

They seem to be really dragging you along... or is it me? Jake didn't get his hearing test at the pedi yet, his insurance won't pay for one until he is 3. We are already doing the therapy through Step By Step, and although the therapy has been mainly focusing on cooperation and self control, Jake's vocabulary has blossomed!

He is saying 2-3 word sentences, some are clear, some not so clear. Given my already escalated worry, I don't know what is normal or not anymore. I know there is a point with 2 yr olds, that others aren't expected to understand him, and then closer to 3, they are more understood by strangers.

I just try to get through day to day, and encourage whatever words I can get out of him.. the more excited he gets about getting what he wants with words, the more he will feel comfortable saying them.

Hopefully Andrew's next appt will be soon, and you can get some clearer answers and ease your doubts.

Thanks for the update! I love hearing from you!

There is a lot of waiting...

Check out these links in the mean time... you can use some of the techniques and exercises to keep things moving forward for him. Maybe something will help him click and he'll be talking great before you know it! My brother's wife said their son didn't say a word until he was 2 1/2.. then he just started talking. I've heard of this happening a few times!

Check out all the categories.. there is a lot of info in these websites. It's great!

http://teachmetotalk.com/category/articulation/ (Laura is the owner)
http://speechtherapyweb.com/about/ (Tami is the owner)

I like both of these.. you can post questions directly to the therapist.

Tami posts on CafeMom from time to time. I am pretty active on those boards. I can send you an invite if you're interested. They have several boards for language delay, and you can get some tips and support for those frustrating days. Let me know, or you can just go to CafeMom and search the boards for speech.

hello all,
just passing by and reading your stories of language delays so i thought i'd share mine..our oldest is currently receiving therapy from step by step also. he was taught french, english and sign language at an early age and had trouble saying anything that made sense at age 2. it's been 1 year since our evaluation with the therapists. he is doing better but still gets lazy with certain sounds. i think they progress with time as they get older with the help of therapy. we get re-evaluated this week to see if he still needs it.

Well the day is almost here, This Wed Aug 6th is Andrews hearing test, we are eager to hear what they say. He is saying alot more words, but they are still hard to understand, he is trying and as are we. I am sure he is ok, but until we have the test I wont feel ok knowing if there is something we can do to help him. As for my youngest now 4 1/2 months hears everything and startles very easily, which ANdrew never did at this age.
