I'm starting to consider a 2nd pregnancy, and questioning a lot of things. Any one have an opinion on the pros and cons of having your children close, or farther apart? |

Well I AM CURRENTLY DUE IN AUG AROUND THE 15TH WITH MY 2ND,MY FIRST WILL TURN 2 IN OCTOBER. IT TOOK US 7 YEARS TO GET PREGO WITH HIM AND NO HELP WITH FERT DRUGS. WE WEREN'T QUITE SURE HOW LONG IT WOULD TAKE TO GET PREGO OR EVEN IF IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN SO WE STARTED TO TRY BUT NOT TRY DOES THAT MAKES SENSE IF IT HAPPENED IT HAPPENED, RIGHT AFTER OUR FIRST TURNED 1.I ALSO AD SAID THAT I'D LIKE TO HAVE THEM ALMOST 2YRS APART SO THEY WOULD HAVE MORE IN COMMON, AND O THEY WILL BECAUSE THEY ARE BOTH BOYS. WE ARE PLANNING ON TRYING AGAIN IN FOUR YEARS ONE LAST TIME FOR A GIRL AND REAURDLESS BOY OR GIRL THAT IS THE FINAL GO AROUND AFTER MY SOON TO BE 2ND IS BORN .I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER, WELL I GUESS IF MY FIRST WAS ALREADY POTTY TRAINED THAT WOULD BE GREAT BUT BOYS ARE HARDER TO TRAIN THAN GIRLS.I WISH YOU MANY BLESSINGS IN DECIDING . |

I have a 21 month old and a brand new 4 month old. It has been the hardes thing ever, BUT the most enjoyable. We didn't exactly plan the second pregnancy, but it happened and I am the HAPPIEST person. I know they will grow up together, same age for games and places to visit, for group activities, they'll probably fight over the same toys, but who cares they will (I hope) be very close brothers and friends.
On the other side I have a sister whom has 3 sons, 5 years apart each. She always complains that when she and her husband used to go places (e.g. theampark) they would always split, since the 10 yrs old didn't like the things the 5 yrs old did and plus they had the baby to worry about, and they never really played together. At the same time, when college came around she was able to pay for the oldest, now is is paying for the middle and the youngest wont be in college until the second one graduates. Plus now that they are a little older she sees they are starting to relate and have more things in common.
So...I guess there is no right or wrong...just think that you would rather do...could be like me changing diapers at the same time...or waiting 5 years to change diapers again..hehe. |

Hi,
I am currently expecting my second child in October and my daughter is 28 months old. She is at the age where she understands to a point that I am having a baby and she enjoyed the ultrasound and hearing the baby's heartbeat. I think they will be close enough to be into the same things but far enough apart that they can enjoy different things also. It took me awhile to want to have another but now I think our timing was great. I guess we will see for sure when October arrives. |

My daughter is 15 months old and we are trying for our second baby. We wanted to try when our daughter was 9 months but the army happend. We want them close so that my husband isn't in his 60's when our last one is in first grade. We are thinking of going for four kids. |

I definitely do not believe there is any right or wrong, good or bad answer, only opinions and experiences. So far we only have 1 daughter who will be 17 months old tomorrow. We plan to try for #2 next summer, so our daugter will be 3 when the new baby is born. I'm hoping by that time she will be old enough to understand more of what is going on and play more of an active role in the baby's life as well as alleviate some jealousy. I have no problems with children being close together, but I do believe having them within a couple of years takes away some individual attention from both children. So many amazing changes occur in the first couple of years, and I want to give my daughter the attention she craves and deserves for a bit longer. Of course, we did just get a new puppy, and it is amazing how similar a puppy is to having another child =)! |
