my son is 22 months old, and still hates the vaccum! He can hear loud sirens, loud music, etc, but the vaccum, even the small hand-held one...forget it, he freaks out! I think it's common. Maybe vaccum a different room than she's in when someone else can watch her? |

my daughter went through the same thing. i used to have to hold her while i was vaccuming. she is 1 now and still gets frightened by it sometimes. i put it next to her, NOT ON, and let her touch and play with it so that she knows it won't hurt her. it's just a stage. |

When my daughter was able to get around on her own around 7 months old she hated the vaccuum. The only way I can vaccuum with her is to tell her a few minutes before that I am going to vaccuum and put her in the play yard to do the house and her crib with some toys to do her room. I also use to push the vaccuum when it wasn't on and make a loud vroom vroom sound. Kind of like a game. So now while she is in the play yard or crib and I vaccuum she screams a happy sound to try and make the vaccuum noise. |

My son Lucas is 2 1/2 years old and he hates vacums!! and after we moved to a new place with a hard floor dont know if he still hating them but when we go to see my in laws and if he sees the vacum before he starts playing he runs into the room and close it. He is fine with any other sounds and not afraid to anything expect VACUM & BLENDER! but 6 months ago he was fine with the blender. I used to hold him when will use either of them. Not worries is pretty normal.! |

My son is 27 months old and still hates the vacum, he runs out of the room screaming. I feel so bad but sometimes the floors get so bad I just have to do it, before I had my son I vacumed once or twice a week, now I am lucky to do that in a month because he hates the vacum so much. |

I never had this problem with my son, as from the time he was a year old, he has chased the vaccum around the room while I am using it. However, my friend did have this problem with her daughter. Her daughter hated the sight of the vaccum as well as the noise. If this is the case with you, I will recommend the same thing that I did to her. Put the vaccum out in the open, where it is visible but not in use, to let her get used to the sight of it. Now, this may not work at the moment, as she is so young, but it could help down the road. Other than that, I would recommend putting her in her room while you vaccum the rest of the house and then doing her room in the evening maybe, while your husband or someone can watch her. Hope this helps. |

Don't let your daughter start controlling what you do around the house. It will only set you up for worse things in the future. Keep vacuming when YOU need to, not when your daughter allows you to. She will get used to the sound....AND get used to YOU making the decisions. |
