same thing happened with my daughter. the sound freaked her out. what i did was strap on a baby bjorn or even just hold her while i vaccuumed. that worked. or, i'd do it before she woke up in the morning -- right around that time. then i slowly introduced her to it. i had it off and in the room; i'd let her touch it. (looking at it from a baby's perspective, a vaccuum cleaner looks pretty imposing and scary.) now my daughter likes to walk over to it and pat it. she's okay with me not holding her when i vaccuum.
now the dust buster is a TOTALLY different story.... i've given up on that!

My son went from liking it to hating it to being indifferent about it. During his "fear" time, I would vacuum every other night when my husband was giving him his bath in the bathroom...and we'd talk to him about it...show the vacuum to him and tell him it was okay...and eventually he grew out of the fear. Good luck and hang in there! |

My daughter went through the same thing. I used to be able to vacuum with her sitting in her bouncy seat on the floor. Then one day I was vacuuming and she freaked out. I tried vacuuming while she was actually sleeping too, but it would always wake her up. So, now I either vacuum while she is sitting in her high chair having a snack, lunch, etc., while my husband is giving her a bath, or right after I lay her down. That way she won't get woken up by it.
I hope you find something that works for you! My little sister was terrified of the vacuum for years. |

my daughter didn't like the vacuum either. She would freak out about it. From about 7-9months old till she was 2 1/2. I just vacuumed when she was up. She later would help me clear the floor which meant her too up on the sofa. then I got an idea to let her help me vacuum, as soon as I put it in her hand she was fine. she is now almost five and no problems since. Good luck |

I got my daugher her own little play vaccuum. It makes the same noise and it plays music and the alphabet, i got it at target. She's 18 mo, and she helps me clean the house and will clean the floor when i do. |

My son is 20 months old, and as long as I let him help me push it, he is fine. Of course it takes longer that way, but at least it gets done!
I had the same problem when my son was younger. I had to resort to layering blankets down on the floor for him to play on and vacuuming when he was in another room with my husband. |

I think all kids go through this. They went from hating it to wanting to ride on the thing when I was vacuuming. I would try putting her in a sling and holding her while you vaccum. If she cries just keep telling her it's ok and you are just getting the yuckies off the floor. She will eventually grow out of it. ;) |

My daughter was the same way. Don't worry she will most likely grow out of it. My daughter now insists on helping me vaccum. :)

lol I thought I was the only one! My daughter is now 17 months but at about 12 months she hated the vacum and she would shake and make me hold her the whole time I had it on. But now that shes alittle older and understands what the word vacum means i can warn her that im about to clean, and she knows it's ok. I even bought her a tiny play one so she can clean along with me and now she looks forward to "vacum time". |
