| Welcome to the group. There are a lot of parents in this group, but I can't say for sure if any have teens currently in bootcamp. I do hope that you can find support and understanding with us. |

| I have a son who just graduated from High School, he has been accepted to a university in Texas and plans on pursuing an art degree. We have had so many struggles with him over the high school years. Basically, not wanting to do his work, grades were really poor. He always passed everything - sometimes just barely though. He is extremely smart so c's, d's and the occasional F was unacceptable. He is my middle son and the other two not at all like this one... my husband and I were not prepared for a child with a "don't care" attitude. He was smoking pot and cigarettes (we are non smokers now but both had smoked during out teen years) He would rarely make curfew and it was very, very difficult. He got in trouble in school because the "drug dogs" loved his car! Thankfully he was caught with "drug paraphenalia" only but we knew it could have very well been "drug possesion" which would have been way worse. He was sent to "Alternative School" for 6 weeks and then was allowed to return to High School at the end of March. I can give you alot of examples of stuff we went through with him and how we handled certain situations but I would like to say this: Our son - looking back was not happy at our Public High School Our 21 year old and our 17 year old who will graduate this year liked it fine and were accepted there. If we would have tried to find an "alternative school" for our son on our own I think we could have avoided some of the problems. Our son didn't fit in he was very different... which we embraced but I now know other students did not. He has done so much better now that he has graduated it is like a weight was lifted from him. We are getting along and he seems to have really grown up.... I hope some of this has been a help to you. Please let me know if you would like to share more. I apologize for this lengthy reply. |
