My daughter started sleeping better after about 4 months when we put her in her own crib in her own room. Unfortunitly I think all baby's are different. I will warn you she is now 13 months and still wakes up usually twice a night. |

My son woke up every 1-2 hours until about 4 months, then he went to every 2-3 hours. He is 6 months now and slowly getting better. We get about a 4-5 hour window from 7-12/11'ish and then it is every 3 hours. I am told this is normal for 2-3 wakings for a breastfed baby until as late as 9 months. I think this is the best we wil get for now since we are doing cereal twice a day and formula before bed. Every baby is different but usually 3-4 months. Hang in there, is does get better. |

I remember our son sleeping a whole 5 hours at exactly 4 weeks! It scared me to death! He went to 6 at around 6 weeks and then he progressed from there. At around 4 months, we moved him into his own room and then I worked on his naptime routine and got him on a sleep/eat schedule. He is 15 months now and sleeps between 11-13 hrs/night and 1.5-3 hrs for his nap.
I used a book called "On Becoming Babywise." My OB recommended it to me after I read a ton of others. The best part about this book is that it is SHORT and easy to read!!! When you are sleep deprived, you don't need any scientific explanations. The other thing to remember is that babies have approximately a 45 minute sleep/wake cycle. So it is normal for your baby to stir and cry at around that time. A lot of the times, they aren't actually awake and we (in our rushing to see what is wrong) wake them up. I have caught this many times. I will go into my son's room after him crying for a few minutes, and notice he is still laying down. When I go to pick him up, he actually starts crying harder as if to say, "I am trying to go back to sleep lady, what are you doing?"
Good luck and try to find someone to give you a break so that you can get a good 8 hrs as often as possible. |
