My 2year old, Katie, is still taking a pacifier and bottle.....i don't know how to take it from her. When my oldest turned 1 1/2 years old he decided "himself" to throw his paci's and bottles in the trash. That didn't work for her....she throws a major tantrum and tries to get them herself....HELP! |

Hi! My name is Amy. I have 2 children (almost 4 and 16 months).
I had a hard time breaking my oldest from his pacifier. It is harder on mom than the child. You just need to decide when you want to get rid of them, do it and never look back. What I did was talk about why he was too big for it - "they are for babies and you are a big boy" Then I took him shopping for a replacement item. His was a teddy bear that he slept with. I also used a reward chart. I set up goals for him (good manners, sharing, no whining for pacifier, etc.) and he earned buttons for each one. At the end of the day/week he earned a prize. Just use lots of praise and brace yourself for the crying and screaming. It wont last long. Just don't give in and backtrack once you have started. Good Luck! |

Hi Johnnia, I know what you are going through. My son was 2 and still using the bottle til finally I had to make him use the sippy cup. We just had to do it cold turkey. He did throw some fits and cry about it but after a few days he was better with it. If you find a sippy cup that he likes or a character on it that helps. Good luck, hope this helps some. Maureen |
