Well, this will be our first year homeschooling- my daughter is going into first grade! I live in Riverside, CA. Does anyone know of any homeschooling groups in riverside. I'm a little worried about socialization. Other than that we are excited and looking forward to a great year. Well, talk to you more later- Jamiegayle |

How exciting! We're going into our second year. I asked my son who's going into 2nd grade if he wants to go back to public school and he said, "No way!"
Socialization...don't worry about that. Join a homeschool group that is active. We have homeschool day at the park once a week, cub scouts, soccer, christian scouting program (Royal Rangers), Childrens Church, playdates...LOL...sometimes I think we socialize too much! Thankfully soccer season doesn't last forever. Our homeschool group has parties throughout the year. There are parties for Jr. High and High school as well as for grades 6 and under. We also have a variety of field trips for all ages during the year. There is a yearbook committee of teenagers with two adult sponsers; we'll be getting our yearbook at the end of this month at the yearbook signing party. Our group has a monthly newsletter as well so we can stay informed of all that's going on. Between that and the yahoogroup, it works well.
I look forward to getting to know you better.

I have to agree with the person above me. Socialization really is just a big myth about homeschooling. There is lots out there. Go to your local Library and see if they have a list of homeschool groups in your area or someone you can get in contact about homeschool groups. Also you can try your local YMCA and they may have some homeschool activities and you may find a mom there that can help you find a group. I myself have joined a MOMS Club in my area. No it isn't a homeschool group but it's still a good way the boy's get to interact with other kids. I also do some things with a local homeschool group as well. Please feel free to ask any questions and I look forward to getting to know you better :). |
