Just a question if any of you have advice on how to get my little one to sleep thru the night? I've watered down her bottles, letting her cry it out for 5 minutes at a time and nothing so far has worked. I dont recall it being this difficult with my boy. Can girls really be that different? Help, tips needed. Thanks:) yoni |

I recommend CIO for more than 5 minutes. I know it's hard but it really does work. If you only let her cry for 5 minutes, then she knows that if she cries for a short while, mommy will come in and hold me. If the crying bothers you, I recommend going into the bathroom and turning on the shower to drown the noise. Also it is proven that the sound of falling water is a relaxer. |

I have been very lucky, Morgan has slept though the night since about 3 or 4 months. she hates it when I first put her down though. I usually just let her cry. she cries for between 5-15 min usually and then she falls asleep, if she is crying for longer than that I either give her a bottle which sometimes doesnt work or I rock her for like 10 min then when I put her down she either goes to sleep almost right away or cries just for a min or 2.... |

YES! Girls are SO different. I have a 2 1/2 year old girl and a 1 year old boy. Logan just goes to sleep when I put him down, he might cry for just a minute or two and then he's done for the night. With Victoria - she was a huge cryer. There were times she would scream for 20 minutes and my husband and I are looking at each other like "what do we do??" I know it may cause some disagreements among parents but we continued to let her cry it out. It won't always be this way. She now tells me that "it's time to go to bed!" and I say, "okay!" We have our nightime rituals and she knows what to expect. Our routine is to fill up her sippy cup with water, sing our ABC's while we change her diaper and to "hold on tight" as we go up the steps. She picks out her favorite animals and books to put in her bed and after I tuck her in, she says "bye bye!" So as distressful as it may seem, this is just a phase and it will pass so hang in there, it will get better =) |

Hi all, Well a few months after taking all your advise my lovely little girl is still waking up for bottles once, sometimes twice a night. Since I've become a mom I am the lightest sleeper so I'm always the one "on duty" and sometimes my rituals or methods I'm trying are completely different than my husbands methods when he puts her down. TONIGHT I WILL COMMIT TO LETTING HER CRY IT OUT and cross fingers that it'll work. |

Hi Yoni,
Doesn't it seem that being a mom is just the hardest job in the world?? All the stress of these different phases that each of our kids go through is daunting! Good luck with sticking it out. All I can say is, if you're planning on trying to let her cry it out, make sure that you have no plans for the next day, so that you';re not tired and stressed out and THEN trying to get the kids out the door. Make it a low key week for you.
Keep us all posted, we're wishing you the best of luck! |
