Need help to get my son to wear an eye patch!
Hello,
My son will be 2 in a few days. He is a wonderful, happy go-lucky, well-behaved child. I couldn't ask for better!
Only problem- he has a "lazy" eye and will not wear an eye patch to correct the issue. I bought him a really fun little toy that flashes light for him to play with while the patch is on. Now he cries for the toy but will not wear the patch. First, I tried the bandage patches and even called them "eye stickers" to make it more kid-friendly. He rips it off as soon as he can if he is not successful in completely blocking me from sticking it on in the first place.
Then, we bought a "pirate" patch thinking it might be more fun. Daddy tried it on and so did I. When it came time for our son to try it he ripped it right off.
His eye needs to improve and this is a critical developemental point in his life. How can we get him to wear a patch? Any ideas at all?

I hate to suggest this for your own sanity, but what about the Wiggles? They have a Captain Feathersword that wears a patch. And there is tons of videos out there. I recommend the live version of the Hot Potatoes or something like that. It's all songs, and gets them interacting with the show. My daughter went through a stage where that's all we would watch. That might be where your sanity might wear a bit thin :)
You could also get him a pirate's hat or sword or something. Hope this helps.

The Wiggles is a great idea! He just loves them (a bit too much) but that means I might be able to get him into the pirate thing-thanks for the idea!

I have a friend who gives her little boy matchbox car or trucks when he does something, like when they were potty training, I don't know if I am going to go that route but it may be something I use as a last ditch effort, she said after the first couple of weeks he didn't even expect one. She would get the packs of 5 and give him one at a time. So if your son just has to wear it for a short time through the day you could get some inexpensive toys that he likes, like the match box cars and give it a try I know that is not the best lesson to teach kids but something to try as a last ditch effort.

Oh that's a tough one! When I saw the title of the post, I immediately thought of the whole Pirate theme, but you're one step ahead of me already apparently. Maybe just go with that.....get a pirate poster, an outfit, etc...

I just thought about his birthday coming up...you could do a pirate theme there too. Maybe if his friends got in the spirit, he might too.

I talked to my husband about the pirate idea. He is all for it. I am going to go get foam swords and some pirate accessories at the dollar store-they just got a huge pirate shipment. My husband said he would wear a patch too and play sword fight with him. If he even keeps the patch on for a couple of minutes at a time it would be a big improvement!
Thanks for all the comments so far-there have been some really good suggestions!
