My son was clearly not happy when we explain that his grandparents are divorced (long before he was born) and the grandfather is remarried.
I guess he realized for the first time people can separate and this reality gave him a panic.
What did you say to your kids?

My girls are young, but I guess what has been hard for me is that since their dad and I have been apart since they were 2 and 10 months, they are just now starting to question things, so Nikki my oldest sometimes tells me that she wants me to marry her daddy... and all I have been able to do is explain that we were already married once and that mommy and daddy just didn't get along, so now we aren't married anymore... Its not the story I would like to tell, but its the story I tell none the less...
The hardest moment was one day we were driving, by a cemetary and Nikki saw the flowers and said mommy, I am going to pick you some flowers so you can marry my daddy... Also in Feb. we went with some friends when they were having family pictures taken, and Nikki told me that she wished her daddy was there so we could all take a picture and be a family, and I simply just told her that maybe someday Mandy(my youngest) and her and I would take pictures together because we were a family just like our friends...
Its not easy, but I think you have to explain it as simple as possible no matter what you want to say!!! |

Thanks for sharing this. I am in the early stages of divorce with my ex and it is already taking it's toll. For one he has a track record for not calling his other children and hasn't seen them in 9 years. He hasn't called mine in two days. I don't want to mention it to them but I am hurting for them. I have a friend who is writing a fantasy book for kids that help them to understand divorce. I just hope this all passed. Thank God I have Him, because I don't know if I could get through it alone :)
