crawing
I have a nine month old little girl. From about two weeks old she wanted to stand. When she was awake she did not like to sit down or lay down at all. She loved to stand on our laps and be held while she looked around. She started a month ago to pull herself up on things and has been walking around them since. She also will take "long" walks holding onto someones fingers. She refuses to crawl. I get on my hands and knees and push her knees under her and she flopps on her face. Then eventually she will move her hands forward but she does not like to be on her tummy at all. Any ideas on what I can do to help her learn to crawl?

You know she just might walk first. Not all babies crawl first or even at all. That is what my husband and I thought our daughter was going to do. She as well loved standing as soon as she got home, but she never disliked being on her stomach. I tried the whole crwling myself, pushing her legs underneath and she would just push back and forth, and then all of a sudden the other day she just took off. She hasn't quite yet realized that she can go super fast with it. Good luck

You can give her opportunities by putting her on her belly with nothing nearby to pull herself up. Put some toys she loves just out of reach to encourage her to move to them. If she doesn't like it try just a few minutes at a time.

But if she doesn't crawl before she walks, I wouldn't worry too much. There are some people who will say all babies Must crawl before they walk, but I disagree. I know of a few who never crawled and ended up developing perfectly normally otherwise. All babies are different and develop differently and have different needs. It sounds like your daughter is progressing physically, so don't push her too much to crawl. She is learning how to get around.

My son is in the same boat. He loved to stand from a very young age. He is doing push ups and pulling himself along the floor, but with all of my efforts to teach him to get up on his hands and knees he hasn't either. His Dr. said yesterday it is fine and some babies just go straight to walking and never crawl. My son is pulling him self up and standing and loves his walker. I wouldn't worry. She may just skip crawling. My son is 9 months as well.

It's so funny to read these messages because it's like someone is writing my thoughts and concerns. My son has been doing the same things. He is 10 months old now and has always loved standing from about 2 weeks old but refuses to crawl. I thought he'd be an early walker but he'll only walk if he is holding someone's finger. And his only attempt at crawling is kind of a "military" style, he pulls his whole body with his arms and wiggles his legs behind him. I can't get him to understand to pull his legs up under him and push his arms up. He gets so frustrated with me when I try to make him walk without me...what other things has everybody else tried?

Thank you all for replying to my message. I feel better because, yes, I have been told to not let her walk because she should crawl first and that is like tryoing to stop the rain. She is starting to wiggle herself around and find a way to get to things she wants but she does not like to do it when someone is watching so I sneek out just far enough to watch when she thinks she is alone. She usually rolls/slides but she makes it. Thanks for all the advice and answers. Good luck to all you with the same problem.

I'm sure we will all laugh about this in a couple months when they are running. My friends baby never crawled and once she was up in walking position she just ran everywhere. My son is running from me in his walker. I'm sure once he gets it, I'll be chasing him and wishing he still was dragging himself around on the floor:-)
