We have fraternal twin boys that are 41 months old and have still not mastered the potty thing. They stand up and tee tee fine when told or when at a restaurant, on the road, at a new place etc... they check them out and will tee tee when they get there . But at home they never stop playing to go, and when I ask them to go they say the other one has to go. Never, I mean Never will they goo poop on the potty thought. And it is not for lack of celebration or trying, I have monster truck, flashlights, sports cars, you name it hanging above the toilet all for their pleasure if only they do the deed. Needless to say it has all accumulated dust. finally today I decided that my youngest twins deep desire for Oreo cookies which he calls "black cookies" and my elder son (by 2 min) who desires oatmeal cookies will now have to earn the via pooping on the potty. my mom is devastated, grandmothers usually are, that I would withhold cookies but hey.... ya got to do what ya got to do.... any other suggestions since cheerios, m&m's, monster trucks , flashlights, and helium balloons did not do the trick? Welcoming any help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jackie |

I know this sounds asinine. However, when my brother was little he decided that pooping was a waste of time and that he didn't need to do such things (needless to say my Mother spent weeks convincing him that one poop daily was much less painful than the one poop he was making every three or so days). She explained to him that adult men and Daddies used this special time on the potty for thinking and getting smarter (the reason they took so long and brought a book). After my dad used the facilities, she would comment on how much smarter he seemed and ask about what he learned while he was in there. She then, told Seth to gather some favorite books, a hand held game, etc. and had him spend 5 or 10 minutes "learning" on the potty before bed at night (sometimes in the morning). She explained that when he had learned something new, a poop would come out to prove it. He became so obsessed with proving he learned something new or got smarter that he spent the better part of an autumn on the toilet. I hope the long explanation and ridiculous advice helps. |

I can sympathize with you. I have THREE boys, one 6, and the twins just turned 4. My advice is simple but probably not too helpful or what you are wanting to hear... let them figure it out in their own time. I found the harder I pushed, the harder or more stubborn they became. When I didn't make such a fuss, they were more willing. ALSO, they did NOT want to wear diaper again, so that was a motivator for them. My eldest twin potty trained himself, the second was a struggle and I learned patience. Boy did I! He would not poo on the pot either, that came months after the peeing part was mastered. I feel your pain or anguish though and I wish you all the luck in the world! |

Hi Jackie and Marco, have your children started to use potty? Now is my turn that I need your advise. I have 2 years and 5 months old twins who refused to use potty. After reading Marco explaination, maybe I will try to get books on potty training. Please help me further. Thanks. God bless. |

Thanks for all the emails but I have news!!! Both boys are 100% potty trained. The oldest was the easiest (if you can use that word here) after almost a year of trying he finally decided he wanted the monster trucks that I had plastered all over the wall of the bathroom, once he pooped and got a truck he wanted more and more. After about 2 weeks of great work I started to slowly skip rewards. As for Thompson, not so easy. Finally I found that he really liked Oreo cookies (black cookies as he called them) so I told him one day that we would not longer be having black cookies unless he went poop on the potty. After nearly three weeks of no black cookies he finally went on the potty. Again after about 2 weeks of rewards I started to skip them slowly and started giving them to him at other times so he could see that he could have them without pooping. Life is so much better now, but still we have those trips when we are out where they both have to check out every bathroom. Good luck with your potty training, hopefully this might help you too. |

Jackie, thanks. I am doing the same like you do by rewarding them things they like. But it was not successful. I think I just have to wait and see. |
