That's great!! Do you have the house baby-proof already?

How old is your baby?

It is child proof enough to the point that it is still liveable. She all of a sudden today decided to start pulling herself up and hse did a number and fell over and bumped her head. I felt awful. I have all of the outlets plugged up. I have everything that dosn't need to go in her mouth out of reach, and all the other doors closed so that she doesn't wander into anything unexpected. Any other tip on house proofing I would appreciate though. My daughter is about to turn 8 months old, she was starting to worry me I thought she just might get up and walk away one day before crawling, but she did it and I am so excited. Now I have to worry about this pulling up thing.

How exciting! My little guy is getting close and I know things will get crazy as soon as he does. My son's pediatrician told me that her number one emergency call for poison has been hair conditioner. It doesn't taste bad like lots of cleaners so children keep drinking it. So keep that in mind.

Thank you. She would have to be pretty tall to get that. It is in our shower on the top shelf, as well as our cleaning prodects are in our closet on a shelf that she wont be able to reach until she is about 10. It is so exciting to see them hit milestones. I am so happy that I get to see them all. I hope your son gets there soon. Has he started getting up on his hands and toes like if he is doing a push up with his but in the air? That is what my daughter started doing and she learned how to get herself to sit up on her own. How old is your son?

My son is 6 months old. He does get his little butt up in the air and pushes up on his hands. He has started propelling himself backwards. I too am glad that I get to see all of these major milestones!

I am a stay at home Mom and wouldn't want to miss all of these developments for anything. My son, Tyler is 7 months, I have been working with him on the floor more here lately, when I first put him down he gets up on toes and hands with his little bottom up in the air, but then goes down on belly. I am looking forward to him crawling, which I will probably wander why I was lookiing forward once he is into everythign. But that is ok, it will be fun. We are still having major sleep problems, and now he has a cold so that makes it more difficult. Any suggestions, I use a vaporizor/humidifier, it doesn't seem to help and I have his mattress elevated. Don't know what else to do.

Susan, what is the major aspect that your baby is having problems with? From what you are describing it sounds like something to do with his breathing. Where does he sleep? (your room, baby room) How soon do feed before bed?

He is having problems breathing when he lays down from his cold, runny nose. He sleeps in his own room, but last night he wouldn't he got back up and wouldn't go back to his crib, so I ended up putting him in bed with us because I didn't know what else to do. He is too active now to sleep in his seat. We had gotten in the habit of sleeping in the car seat or with us, but we had broken that habit until he got his cold. I am having a very difficult time getting him to sleep long stretches at night anyways. He is a breast fed baby, but is eating a lot of baby food now. He does not know how to soothe himself back to sleep.

I know it is hard, but you have to let him cry even if it is just 5 minutes. Then the next night try a little longer. It was very hard for me to do it, because I hate to hear her cry. Have you tried using vicks for babies. I heard that it works real well. How many times a day does he eat solid baby foods, and how much. My daughter eats about two meals a day usually for lunch and early dinner around 4 she will eat the whole jar of stage 3 baby foods. She also still eats about 32-40 ounces of milk. We use to have her sleep in our bed when she was younger. I twas comforting to have her right there. Now she sleeps fine in her crib, but I can't seem to get let her sleep in her own room I am to nervous I have seperation anxiety. Who would have guessed that. Let me know how he is doing. I know it is horrible to have a sick child especially when they can't tell you what is wrong.

My little one (5 months) just got over the flu and it was hell. There's really nothing you can do to make him comfy short of the vaporizer, elevated head, saline drops in nose and Tylenol/Motrin.
As for the sleeping, we just Ferberized our little guy with excellent results. It's called the progressive waiting approach. We thought we'd be in for a night of him screaming bloody hell, but he didn't. After 20 minutes the 1st night (with me going in and patting his belly and talking to him twice but never picking him up), he fell asleep. Now, 3 days later, he falls asleep within 2 minutes and sleeps for 5 or 6 hours without waking again.

I didn't know about baby vicks, can I get that at WalMart I assume? I was looking there for somethign to put in the vaporizer to help him breathe better but they didn't have anything for cool mist or for babies.
thanks for the tip.

Yes you should be able to get in at walmart or if you look it up online it should have a link or a message about the retailors that carry the product. Good luck. Hope your baby feels better

When my son gets a cold, I use baby saline drops and the suction bulb. He hates it but it always helps him breath better. I also use the vaporizer at night and I can really tell the difference if we don't have it on during the night. In addition, J&J's makes a great bath product to help soothe babies with colds. It has eucalyptus and some other things. It smells great as well. I hope your little one feels better soon.

Babyproofing tip!! Get locks for your bathroom cabitnets and keep all your cleaners, toothpaste, lotions etc in their, -- Thea kept getting into stuff so we got rid of everything and replaced it with non toxic cleaners and body care. She still gets ahold of the toothpaste once in a while so I'm glad its not Crest or something!!!
