Question about Cyber Charter Schools?
Does anyone in this group that homeschools, use a cyber charter school? If so, please let me know, and let me know which cyber charter school you use. I have several questions to ask about the different schools.

Thanks,
Karen

We don't use them but I know *a lot* about the k12 and connections academy cyber schools. I can probably answer just about any question you throw at me.

I haven't used them but if you wanted I could search for something you are wondering about? Sorry I can't help more.

My younger brother was having trouble with bullying in his highschool and has been using Odella for his junior and senior years. He enjoys it because it is NOT challenging. They have made it a way for him to just get his credits and go (so my parents say). I could ask more if you want.

Oh, Talisman, you are probably the one that will be able to answer my questions! First off, last school year I HSed my DD for the last half of the school year. And at the begining of this school year she and I both agreed to send her back to public school. Now she is asking to be HSed again next year. Last year we used Agora Cyber Charter(K12).

If we do decided to HS next year I will again use a Cyber Charter school.( I plan too much and don't follow through, hence the reasoning for using a charter school).

The questions I have are mostly about Connections Academy. I have researched them online, have looked at their curriculum and really am interested, they seem to offer so much more. But, here are my questions that I have come up with, that I can't seem to get answers to.

1. How often would I have to send in work samples? Agora was once a month.
2. What type of work samples need to be sent in?
3. Do all tests have to be sent in?
4.Are the tests all done online, or are they paper tests?(At Agora, they were paper tests, and if DD did not do well the first time around, we were able to go back over the lesson, and she could retake the test as often as needed, if necessary)
4. How is attendance tracked? Is it like Agora, where I just log in each day how much time she spent on each subject?
5.Does Connections Academy require that time is spent on each subject each day. Or could we switch things up. i.e. Monday, 3hrs LA, 2 hrs science, Tuesday, 3 hrs Math, 2 hrs history and so on?
6.And this one just popped out of my head! I am sure I will think of it, and probably have more questions after these questions are answered!

Rick, what is your reason for switching from PDELA to PA Cyber? I am just curious, is there a reason or you would just like a change? I don't think I have seen anything about PDELA, but, have checked out PA Cyber, and the only thing I didn't like about it was that I have to drive there for an initial meeting. Which with a 13y.o. an 8 y.o. and a 1 1/2 y.o., that is not something I really want to have to do.

Thank you all for your very quick responses!

We decided to change from Pdela to Pa cyber mainly because Pa Cyber offers more class choices then Pdela does. With Pdela the kids have to attend an Ilink session once a week for each of their classes that is the only live interaction with the teacher and other students.Pa Cyber offers Virtual classes about 90 min. long for the grades my boys are in which happens 3 days a week which I think will be a big help for my boys. Also the social activities that they schedule for all parts of PA.Pdela did not offer much of that. With PA Cyber you are assigned an Instructional Supervisor as your direct contact to help with questions or concerns and they monitor the student progress. There are many other reasons as well.
