Pooping issues anyone????
Does anyone (or more specifically anyone's daughter/son) have problems with pooping? My daughter is having some tough time with it.
Couple weeks back, she would wake up every hour or so crying, struggling and grunting to pass gas. It was VERY hard to watch her.... :( I researched it on the net, and saw that this is a very common issue, which will go away once her digestive system matures more.
She is doing much better now, but now she is struggling with pooping, not gas. She is not constipated, because she poops every day at least once, but every time it's such a project!!!!! She usually poops in the morning, during feeding and then she is good for the day. It usually starts bothering her in the middle of the night though. I think she would sleep through the night, or at least sleep longer if it wasn't for this. So far only 2 things worked:
1, If I pat her bottom while she is still in the crib, then she'll settle for an hour or two and fall back to sleep
2, I put her on the breast, especially on the right breast and eventually (after some struggling) she will have a HUGE poop. Then she smiles and she is good for the day. :))))
Does anyone have experience with similar problems? What worked for your child?
Thanks, any advice is appreciated!!

I had similar problem with my oldest (almost 2). He suffered from frequent constipation. He would scream like crazy when he went to the bathroom. The problem was that his stool would'nt break up. When it came out is was really big (like a grown up). What helped us was giving him prune; either in a juice form or the Gerber prunes. There's also a baby laxitive that I gave him sometime that helped as well.

Try also: apple, pear or orange juice.

Hope this helps.

Well, the thing is, that she is not constipated. She poops every day and when it finally comes out, it is very watery, just as it should be. (First I was even worried that she had diarrhea, but after checking with the Dr. I was told it was normal.) Also, I was told not to give her anything BUT breast milk/formula. (she is only 8 weeks old...)

My son has the same problem at times. Something that you could try is laying her on your legs, belly down and rubbing her back. You could also try a warm bath, as that might help soothe her, and the bicycle pumping with her legs may help(laying her on your legs facing you and moving her legs as though she is riding a bicycle). When you know she is going to be pooping, try making sure that she is laying flat, not scruched up or anything. I found that that would help with my son. He had a lot of problems when he would be in a sitting position and trying to poop. You could also mention it to your doctor, as they may have some suggestions for what may make things easier. It could also have something to do with what you are eating. Spicy foods, cabbage, and foods with a lot of sugar seemed to make things worse for my son. I nursed him as well, and when I ate those foods, before he would poop, he acted as though he was in a lot of pain. Needless to say, once I figured out the triggers, I stopped eating those foods. Hope something in here helps :)

How old is your daughter?

My daughter would get like that with teething starting @ about 3mo. She still has diahrea whenever she teeths @ 1 yr and it is common too. When she gets like this does her stomach rumble?

My daughter still suffers from constipation and she is 18 months. I know when she was younger the ped recommended dark Karo syrup. Can't remember how old she was at that point, but it worked. Helped things come out a little easier. Check with the doc about that first though. They also recommended Milk of Magnesia. That worked ,too. But, it could be like you said and her system just needs to mature some more. If you trust your ped, just follow what they say. If she wasn't pooping ince a day, they may be more concerned.
Good luck!

my daughter has similar issue. she would poop every day but it would not be mushy consistency and she'd strain, etc. took her to the dr and he said it's constipation. so even if she is pooping every day, if she's straining or it's dry or hard, she's constipated. my daughter had to be put on miralax. it didn't upset her tummy or anything and is WONDERFUL! it's a stool softner as well as laxative. my daughter had to be on it as long as the whole thing started (so for a few months). I'm in the process of weaning her off.

My daughter will be 2 months old this coming Sunday.

When she had the problem with passing gas, our Dr. said to give her Milanta 3 times a day. It seemed to have helped, so she said to continue with it for another month.

Like I said, she is not constipated, her poop is very watery. She is just having a tough time getting it out.... :) I hope she'll pass this phase soon also, as I don't like to see her struggle.....

My daughter, now 14 months, had a similar problem. Since it sounds like she is breast feeding, I would keep a dairy of what you are eating as it maybe causing her some problems. If you are supplementing with formula, you might want to talk to the doc about changing the formula. I would watch out for an umbilical hernia - where the belly button bulges out. That happened to my daughter, but went away after she was six months. (My daughter's was the size of her daddy's thumb).

my son use to do the exact same thing, he would have about 2 poopy diapers every other day but his doctor kept telling me that he needed more than one a day, which I knew but I didn't think there was much I could do for him, It was a stuggle for him to even just pass gas...so I thought what would make me feel better if I was him and so I got a towel and put it in the microwave and heated it for a few seconds and put it on his tummy right before bed and it seemed to make him feel better. We even thought that he had a touch of colic so we bought some stuff called Gripe water and that helped him poop. He started having 2-3 poopy diapers a day after starting him on that. Right after that(right around 3 months) he had a week of diarea type poopy diapers but after that week the poop became more solid and he poops alot now with no problems(of course now he's 5months)
