FINALLY
WELL AUSTIN HAD HIS SCHEDULING APPOINTMENT YESTERDAY. HE WILL BE DOING DEVELOPMENTAL THERAPY 2 DAYS A WEEK AND SPEECH 1 DAY A WEEK. THE REASON IT'S MORE DEVELOPMENT THAN SPEECH TO START IS BECAUSE OF HIS SHORT ATTENTION SPAN! ONCE THEY ARE ABLE TO GET HIM TO SIT DOWN AND FOCUS FOR A LONGER PERIOD OF TIME THEY WILL UP THE SPEECH.
I'M SO EXCITED TO FINALLY GET HIM STARTED. I WAS KINDA SAD THEY DID A RANKING THING 1-7 AND HE WAS A 2 ON THE SPEECH AND SOCIALIZATION! WHICH MEANS HE'S EMERGING. HE'S NOT MUTE BUT ALMOST. THE THING IS HE'S DOING TONS OF BABBLING! HE'S ADDED TONS OF WORDS TO HIS VOCABULARY BUT STILL SLURS AND HIS PRONUNCIATION ISN'T GOOD.
I'M REALLY HOPING THE THERAPY HELPS. THEY WILL REEVALUATE IN 6 MONTHS. ONCE HE TURNS 3 HE WILL HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. I'M SENDING HIM TO THE LOCAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FOR PRE-K AND THE LADY SAID HE COULD DO HIS THERAPY THROUGH THERE BUT ONLY IF HE STILL NEEDS IT!

Congrats! You and Austin are one step closer.

Don't worry about the rankings, someday you will look back at those numbers (while your son is talking your ear off) and be reminded if how far he has progressed!

I am sure the therapy will help, you just have to be patient. That's my biggest problem. I want it now.

Anyway, good luck and please let us know how things fare!

Wow, sounds like you have a great starting point, and will hopefully make some quick progress. Ideally, you won’t even need the therapy when he starts Pre-K, but it is good to know that it is there if you do need it. When does Austin turn 3? It is so hard when we see our little ones struggling. When they evaluated Arden I had tears in my eyes when he would try to talk to them, but I could tell they didn’t understand him…shoot, I only understood part of what he was trying to tell them, and I am with him all the time. I think it is just a very emotional thing for parents…especially when there isn’t a “quick fix”. Well, I definitely hope things go well with the therapy! I am sure you will let us know how it goes, but also let us know of any tips they give you that seem to help Austin…you never know what you might be able to pass along that would be helpful.

Just think, at least the waiting part is over and now is the time for the doing part! :-)

one of the tips she gave me because of his weak toungue they said to have him purse his lips over and over again. that's really the only tip for now. I will keep everyone posted.
