Some advice needed about travel
hey all!
So, in about a week, my family is meeting for a four day vacation in the mountains where we are renting a cabin. My son is 19 months and sleeps well most nights. He's on a regular routine and responds well to minor interruptions like the sometimes missed nap or late lunch or later bedtime. However, we aren't sure how to do the sleeping arrangements at the cabin. He's physically okay to sleep in the pac n play, but he's not used to it at all! We used it when he was younger when we'd travel and he'd fight it for a while but then fall asleep just from being tired.
He's been sleeping in his crib in his own room from 3 months on and does not do well AT ALL co-sleeping. So, any tips for us? Should we try to get him down for his afternoon nap and let him get up after a certain amount of fighting? Should we use the same room in the cabin as he is or should we pull out the sleeper sofa and let him have the room? what do you all think?

My daughter is the same way. She is 14 months and we just got back from a week with Grandma. She seemed to due well in the pack n play as long as we put her down on schedule. We used a different room then her because we saw the first night that she was not going to sleep if she knew we were there. I would suggest trying to put him in the pack n play with his normal routine (ie. toys/books/rocking before hand) and do it on his normal schedule (at least for the first day). Good luck!

I tend to be "freak" about this subject and we have traveled quite a bit with our 2 year old as we have an older daughter as well. Is there any way you can rent a crib for him? They make "portable/travel" cribs that are NOT pac n plays. They are wood and just smaller than a regular crib.

Here is the "freak" part. I bought my own mattress from babies r us. It is a travel crib mattress but also fits the pac n play. I have dragged it on all of our trips. I finally left it in Mexico over Spring Break figuring she has outgrown it. Needless to say my husband was happy to have me leave it!! :)

If you are driving you can get/rent/borrow a travel crib and take it with you or see if you can rent one where you are going. I have always tried to stick to the schedule. But not pushing the nap or bedtime if it resorts to tears. We have never had success with the pac n play. Seems a lot of hotels are using pac n plays now instead of cribs. Rather annoying because they really are for infants. If you don't mind the sleeper sofa - give him the room. Good luck!!

Try maybe preparing him for it, it is not much notice but what if you put the pack n play in his bedroom and maybe just start slow with putting him down for just naps in it for a few days and then maybe a couple nights for bed. Then by the time you go he may be just comfortable eough to sleep for the short time you will be gone. The other thing is you are going to be in a different place and he is going to be experiencing things he may have not before, so maybe if you do not out him down for a nap and jsut let him get warn otu he won;t even mind and he will just sleep wherever because he is just so tired:) Hopefull thinking maybe:)
