I am a first time mother of Cooper who is almost 14 months old - and wonderful. I am enjoying motherhood - and all the fun (and sometimes not so fun) things that come with it! |

Hi Meredith!
Welcome to the group.
I am excited to see it growing so quickly.
Harveys Lake is a nice area, it must be great for a little boy to explore. Cooper is at a really fun age (it seems like it just keeps getting better!) They really start coming into their own around 14 months.
Do you have a lot of little ones in your area for him to play?
We don't really have anyone on our street for my son. When they are little like this, even 6 months difference in age is huge. We have a 3 yr old girl on the street and they play but, they have different schedules.
We also have our son in gymnastics and swim class at the Wilkes-Barre YMCA. He loves both classes so, it keeps us hoppin!
I wish there was more variety available in this area for the kids. We had a Gymboree by our house and it closed JUST when I got laid off and was able to take him!
Hopefully, we could all brainstorm and come up with some great activities available in this area. |

There aren't any children on our street, and its actually hard to let him go out in the yard because we live right on the mountian and our yard is so steep. He likes to climb up and down though, so he does enjoy it a lot, but its not the best place to play. Cooper and I took a swimming class together at the Wilkes Barre YMCA too. We just finished a couple weeks ago. He likes the water, but class was right after daycare on Mondays and he doesn't nap well in daycare when there is other things going on (they don't have a scheduled nap time :( so he was pretty tired by the end of class. But we enjoyed it. I think we will take another class on Saturdays in the summer or something. Isn't there a Gymboree in Clarks Summit? That's kind of a hike for me though. |

Hey Meredith,
I can totally understand about the way the yard is situated.
We have a big, beautiful yard for the kids to play but there are no fences and it makes me a little nervous. Toddlers move fast. My son is pretty good about staying in the yard but, he IS 2 . . .
We love the Y swim classes. My 7 mo daughter has some separation issues and since I am always home with the kids, my hubby does the swimming w. my son and my daughter and I watch from above. The teacher that my son has is wonderful, she taught me 20 some years ago!
We also do gymnastics, the 1,2 and You class. It's okay, it's like a free for all with some singing. I wish it was a LITTLE more structured. The Tiny Tots (2 & 3) seemed a little too strutured for my son. Well, let's put it this way, he was the ONLY boy in an all girl class so, when he wouldn't sit still and ALL the little girls were sitting nicely, it was a little unnerving! Boys are different! It's fun though.
I think I may take him out of everything in the summer. He has been REALLY difficult with naps lately and I think it's because these activities are messing with his schedule but, then I worry that he won't get any child interaction. It's a catch-22. We may just do one and not the other.
Do you have a hard time leaving your son when you go to work? I had a horrible time with it. I think that's partly cause I hated my job though. It's hard to justify leaving your little one to go somewhere you don't want to be every day.
That's great that Cooper gets interaction everyday in daycare. My in-laws watched my son when I worked because my hubby is a professional firefighter with a non day care friendly swing shift schedule. I am not sure if that was a good move or not. He has a little bit of a speech delay and I often wonder if he would have been talking sooner if he was surrounded by the chit chat of a daycare environment. His speech therapist assures me it has no affect but, I wonder....
My son got up at 5am today, not sure why, just wanted out. Then we got him settled and my daughter woke up so, I gave up on sleep. That's probably why I am going on and on... Well, I am gonna try to sneak a shower in before my son wakes up again!
Have a good day! |

You know what, daycare was definitely harder on me than it was on him from the beginning. But he loves it I think - he really enjoys the other kids, and they all love him too. They swarm like bees when we walk in, its so funny. Some days its hard though, I get this huge urge just to go get him, I don't know where that comes from, but sometimes I just call to see if he's okay. Plus, when he first went into daycare, his daycare was less than a mile from my work and I was still nursing, so I just went down to daycare at my lunch break and nursed him. I think that was the best thing. I miss that daycare - I had to move him when we moved to PA.
Anyways, its nice talking to you, hope you get some rest :) |

Hey, sorry it's taken so long to respond.
I actually have gotten my daughter back on her regular schedule so, I have had a lot more energy and have taken a little break from the forums so I could get my other things done.
That sucks about that daycare but, at least you had it while you were nursing.
How long ago did you move to PA?
It's not bad here. The change of the seasons is beautiful however, the jaded natives usually say that PA has only two seasons: blizzard and construction! haha
Sometimes I get a little frustrated that a lot of the laws and benefits seem to be geared toward the elderly and quite often AWAY from the children. They have senior centers everywhere but the only rec center i know of around here is the Kingston rec center and it's geared to an older crowd than our kids.
Well, I think it's time to hang my laundry out to dry.
Hope your Cinco de Mayo is bueno! |
