My daughter is almost 5 months old, while I was planning on just breastfeeding until 6 months, she just stares at my husband and I while we are eating. Which I guess is a sign she might be ready for cereal, so my doctor tells me. Any suggestions/tips how to begin this process? I also have become concerned with all the types out there, and now there is all this information to make sure that everything is organic because babies and young children are most affected by pesticides and chemicals. AHHHHH!!! Any suggestions/tips will be greatly appreciated. |

My DD did the same thing, she would just stare at us when eating so that is also when we decided to start solids. We started with the rice cereal, I made my own but now looking back the stuff in the store has the same stuff. My dd never really liked the cereal so after I waited a few days I went to veggies and tried one new one a week. Some tips double bib them with the top one being plastic and roll up the sleeves. I stopped making my own food when I realized the stuff for stage one was exactly what I was doing. It is your choice whether you want to go organic or not. Be prepared for everything you put in her mouth to come right out. They have to learn how to eat so you still need to nurse her like you normally would becasue they don;t get much in at first. I would aslo make sure you nurse her a little before you start so she is not hungry and fussy when you try and feed her the cereal. Good luck and have fun with all the mess! |

Earths Best. This is the best baby food on the market, My daughter is 10 months old and has been on it since she was born. Its 100 % organic and they carry all kinds of food and baby products including shampoo! (you can find them at babies r us or check out your local grocery store, some carry them some dont) They make three types of cereal, rice, oatmeal and multigrain. We started ours out by mixing some cereal in her bottle with her formula. We had to get a bigger nipple though because it was a little thick and harder for her to suck out. But by 4 months old, we started spoon feeding her which was messy but she seemed to really enjoy it. After that we started her on Earths Best fruits and veggies (baby jar food). Which is 100% organic and she loves it. Hope this helps! |

Just becareful the rice cereal can be very binding. My daughter still has trouble with the rice cereal and she just turned 13 months. She did great with the oatmeal, and it was gentle enough her to digest. |

Well my daughter did the same thing, we started feeding her at 4 1/2 mo. She only ate the rice cereal for a week or so then we went straight to the first step food. I wouldn't recomend putting it in her bottle though, it is a choking hazard. When they get the bottle they are us to milk coming outand if there are little chunks they may get a little confused and choke, remember they are just learning. Also from my experience my daughter hated the baby food vegetables and I started to get worried, then I started just mooshing up whatever veggie we were eating and she loves them. If you don't want to moosh them you can just mix a little applesauce in with the veggie, but in my opinion moosh, try tasting one of those things I wouldn't eat it either.Definately do one type of food every week just incase she gets and alergy you know what it could be caused from. It is beginning to get warm out so if you are somewhere that you can just undress her when feeding:) so much easier and less laundry...score!!! If not just do the bib. I also let my daughter play in it sometimes, it is kinda how she learned how to do it on her own, I would give her a spoon while I was feeding her and she picked it up right away. I did not do organic and my daughter is fine but that is also your preference and if it makes you feel better than go mommy! Good luck and I hope everything turns out well:) |
