When does teething start
Hey all. My son is three months old as of yesterday. He is starting to drool an awful lot and getting a little fussier than usual at night time. Can babies start teething this early? If it is teething I have those teething rings for him to chew. They say to only put in fridge. Do I need to listen to that or can I freeze them? Is it too early to give him a frozen waffle?

Also I only bathe him every other day because I was told if I bathe him too often his skin will dry out. Should I bathe everyday now that summer is coming and every other in the winter or should I bathe him everyday period? Any thoughts on the subject are welcome and thanks in advance.

Hi Jessica,
It's highly likely that he's teething, I have 3 all whom of which started teething and 3 months and broke a tooth by the time they we're 4 months. Yeah the teething rings are good although I wouldn't put them in the freezer because they can burst open, but, what you can put in the freezer is a babies wash cloth just wet it, squeeze it out, and put it in the freezer for about a 1/2 hr. and let him chew on that , my kids all loved that! and about bathing being that he's still so young and not crawling around or really getting into anything to make him dirty I would still stick to bathing every other day or so. Good luck with those teeth, if he gets really bad or seems uncomfortable ? the pediatrician about giving him some tylenol.

Hi Jessica,

My daughter started drooling from teething around 3 months, however at that time her teeth were only moving down into position within her gums. Emma's first tooth just erupted today, and she's now 8 months old.

Read the directions on the teethers in the store before you buy them - some can be frozen, others should just be refrigerated, and I would recommend buying several in different shapes and sizes to see what works for your child, and keep them even if they don't work for him at first, because he may grow into them when he gets older. A frozen damp washcloth also works well, or teething beads.

I put baby orajel on Emma's gums, I also used the Hylands Teething Tablets (although not everyone approves of those) and I give her tylenol when she's really in pain.

Good luck!

to tell you the truth jessica, my son started drooling at 3 months but didn't get a tooth until 8 months so we were always wondering whether or not he was teeting. he never took a teether because he hated it but i know girlfriends who have tried cold pacifiers from teh fridge and said it helped. i just used orajel even if i had a doubt! bathing is up to you but if you think his skin is drying out, apply lotion before you completely dry the baby and it will keep the skin moist. i agree w/the previous post that if they are not mobile yet, they don't need a bath everyday unless it's part of your bed time routine in which case, the key is to keep it the same everyday!

There is a star that vibrates when the child bites on it. Usually found in grocery stores or maybe online. Its the only thing tmy son would take, because he hated the cold. A bath everyday at this age I dont think is nessecary unless like the ther woman said is part of your nightime rountine. My son had his two top and two bottom teeth by the time he turned 4 months, so yes I think 3 months is normal.

my son will be 5 months on may 4th and he started drooling real bad around 3months and got his first tooth just after turning 4months...he won't take anything but either his hand or anything cloth to chew and suck on(nothing cold) but I keep trying other things. I've used baby oraljel, hylands gel and tablets(the gel and tablets only worked until the tooth actually came in) and the oraljel works wonders. I called his dr before his first tooth came in and they said that tylenol is fine and even using motrin was fine but you might want to call your dr anyways. I only give him the motrin at night before bedtime bottle unless he seems to be really hurting durring the day. He does sort of like the vibrating star that Valarie was talking about but doesn't quite understand it.

About the bath thing, I give my son a bath everynight because its part of bedtime. My husband is very hot natured so naturally so is my son and he gets very hot. Plus with his hands ALWAYS in his mouth now and we've started some cereal and a little baby food he gets a bit sticky...so we have a bath but I only use soap everyother night but I always put lotion on him before I put on his pajamas. But really it is up to you, and if you are worried about dry skin but you feel a bath is in order you can always try baking soda, it makes my sons skin feel great even before the lotion(I use it in my baths too)

Hi, my kids are two and five now.. That does seem pretty early for teething but I do remember with my son he did pre-teeth for a while early... I tried the teething rings. The frozen waffle I tried did not work very well..

Maybe just a thought , is he going thru a growth spirt as well as teething?? Maybe be is hungry as well or burping or has a little gas as well... I remember my little guys well not so little now that he is five but he did get really bad gas and really fussy at night when He was teething...

Yes, I would bathe everyday and make that part of your routine and structure... I have bathed everyday with both of my kids since they were babies and it is part of our calming down routine to get ready for bed everyday.... To help not to dry out their skin you can do short baths and get speciall soft bath lotions and soaps... Sometimes I did when they were that little was just a warm wash and not alot of soap very little actually to keep the skin from drying out and johnson and johnson nighttime baby lotion.. My mom is a early intervention specialist and she knows infant massage .. I did it with my daughter when she was little and it worked very well... Specially infant massage the little tummies help get the little gasses out and relaxes the baby.. I did not do that with my son and what a difference with my daughter.. You can look up infant massage.. hope that helps..
