I normally use a closeup face picture that I took of myself about a year ago for my forum pictures.
Well.... something happened to my kodak software... ALL of my pictures since 2002 have been replaced wit "x's". Therefore they won't open. The error message is that they may have been removed. I purposely made a backup CD in case such a thing would ever happen, but guess, what? It has mysteriousl diappeared....
Any pictures that I had placed in separate folders; like those of my coast pictures (this explains why my forum pictures is of me holding a tiny red fish!), are still there; unfortunately there is not very many of those are those - and they are mainly of recent ones. I never got around to printing any out since ink is so expensive, so now, I have lost many adorable pictures of my daughter.
So... don't let it happen to you. Don't leave your pictures in the folder for the software; go ahead a move them into you 'my pictures' folder, AND rename all of them immediately; do not let them stay as a "number" your digital software assigns them.
Also, so this isn't so off topic - I bought a $25 digital camera for my daughter for Christmas. This is an excellent tool for discovery for them! This camera takes as good of pictures as mine does; the only thing it doesn't have is a display window; so you can't see the pictures until you upload them.
Later! Tina

How terrible! Last year in February, I bought a CD burner for my computer. I installed it and burned backups of my pictures and documents I had created that I wouldn't want to lose.
The computer crashed in March...hard...no recovery of anything possible...so old that starting over would have cost an arm and a leg...just a junkpile.
I just hoped and prayed by back-ups would work with anything new I bought. I had to wait until November to find out though, because it was that long before I could afford another computer.
[OT but I got the top of the line, state of the art, all the bells & whistle model - which just makes my dial-up internet connection torture - don't be envious, this may be the last computer I ever get to own :-)]
Any way, the rest of the story is that I *was* able to access my pics and docs and all is right with the world.
And don't be too sure those pics are gone for good. I have pics I'd deleted off the old computer on the backup cd, and I have since tried deleting them, and they aren't going away.
I gotta go call, Kodak. Bye!

Thanks for that; you are right; I"m just going to leave them there, whatever happened-- perhaps will fix itself. Meanwhile, I've taken advantage of my free picture space on AOL and have been uploading all those remaining! Just in Case.
I don't mean to hog this board, but I feel comfortable posting here. I don't know if any of you have joined other homeschooling forums, but I have. Sometimes it takes weeks to get approved and then, you finally get to login to either see no one posts, or, that it is a uh, well, I will just say it's what I call hate posts, which should have nothing to do with teaching our children at home.
thanks for this board... And I have another post to follow, with a ? Tina |

You post just as much as you want to or need to! We're here for you!
I know what you mean about seeing that no one has posted on a particular site...it's so frustrating!
I belong to several parent/homeschool groups through Yahoo! Groups. I'll see what the procedure is for inviting someone and let you know. |
