Paper Obsession
Hi! I am new to the group and had a quick question for everyone. Does anyone else's child have a paper obsession? My 6 month old son loves paper more than any of his toys. This is not necessarily a huge problem but he tries to tear apart my books and of course he loves to put the paper in his mouth. I try to give him board books, something that won't tear or break down in his mouth but he isn't really interested. Any suggestions?

My daughter likes to steal my shopping list when she's in the cart and I'm not paying attention. Just the other day I didn't realize I dropped a napkin in her stroller and I foud her eating it (soggy pieces in her mouth and all)....

I'm just worried about paper cuts!

My 9 month old is the same way- any paper item he can get his hands on, he immediately rips and tries to eat!! I just try to offer him the cloth books instead; but, like yours, he isnt really interested!!

My 8 month old son loves paper. When I sit down to read the mail he trys to grab it and he loves to put it in his mouth. He loves playing with paper more then his toys. When I give him a toy he trys to go after the paper I am holding in my hand siting next to him. It's hard doing anything when he is next to me I can't read a book to him because he trys to eat the pages in the book. (LOL) My son just love paper.

I think all babies are like this. It is definatley nothing to worry about they are learning - texture, noise and they espeacially love you reaction we make when they do it to.

My daughter does it too there was actually this movie on you tube. This guy was ripping paper and this 6mo old baby boy was laughing histarically at the sounds it made it was soooo funny! He fell over a couple times he was laughin so hard:)

I have a 6 month old daughter that loves paper more than anything else. I found she also likes her daddy's protein bar wrappers. she can't tear them apart so i like those also.

My son has outgrown it. He is now 20 mo. But it was a long phase. I used to occupy him with papertowls, kleenex etc. We actually flew from CA to FL with him laughing and quiet happily tearing up papertowls. All I needed for long trips was some paper. Yes, have to watch them eating them. They went in his mouth for a few months. He loved magazines, ate his cardboard books etc.

Hi, My daughter is just the same. She is 19 months & not out grown it yet fully. I tried to give her cloth books didn't work out very well. I guess have to wait until can communicate.

My 10 month old too! I had no idea it was so common. Her new favorite is pulling tissue after tissue from the tissue box and then ripping them all to shreds.
