Ok, so my son is 8 years old. I don't know what the deal is, but he seems to have issues with bladder control. It seems like he waits until he has to go like NOW. I ask him why he doesn't go when he first feels like he might have to. He says that he doesn't realize he has to go until it is a mad dash for the bathroom. I am just kind of at a loss at to what to do with him.
This morning he woke himself up because he had wet the bed. Now, I know that he can sleep heavily, and that he did have a full glass of milk right before bed, (even though I had told him not to) and didn't go before going to sleep. But is there something more? Should I be worried? Is there anything that we can use to help him?
Also, I got some of the Good Nites sleep boxers, but I was wondering if anyone knew of anything else out there, that isn't so bulky looking.
Any advice is welcome!! Thanks so much |

Don't be alarmed, it is a boy thing!!! My son even holds his bowel movements until it makes him sick. I have been to the Dr. and talked with many people and it seems to be a stage that boys go through!!! Teri |

I'm Karen My 8 yr.old son had the same problem. I thought he was just being lazy, he would not make it to the bathroom in school . His Dr. put him on a medication and it is doing wonders, he feels like a big boy now. The Dr. said his bladder wasn't growing as fast as he was .Ask you sons Dr. about a med. called DESMOPRESSIN (DDAVP). THOSE GOOD NITES BOXERS ARE A BIG PUT DOWN FOR A CHILD THEIR AGE, THEY FEEL LIKE THEIR BABIES AND NOT 8 YEAR OLDS. |

My son is now 10 and still wets the bed. He doesn't go until he ultimately has too even during the day. I've attributed it to being slow to develop. Have you had any luck? He often holds in bladder and bowel movements until he has to dash for the toilet or gets constipated. Giving my son a bath and having him try to have a bowel movement has helped him relax. Unfortunately now he seems to need the bath to have a bowel movement. This is fine if he is at home but not if he is outside the home.
To Karen, I am not a big fan of meds. but you said your son had good results. Thank you for the name of the drug, I'll have to look into it. |
