| My DLH does not like home school. What can I do to persuade him to be more supportive? |

What about homeschooling does he not like? How long have you been homeschooling? Did he agree to try homeschooling when you first started?
This has to be a hard situation when one parent isn't supportive. My hubby was actually the one who came to me about it. My mom was the one who didn't agree with it at first. Then I showed her statistics and she saw how well the boy's were doing and she even read the kinds of things happening in schools so she is now very supportive. Have you tried these things? I hope someone here can help you better than I can. My prayers are with you :) |

| He does not like it because we do not have very many children for my son to play with. My husband is convinced that our son is being ruined because there are no other children around. He is convinced that my son is missing out. I tried to tell him that since I am a fully certified teacher, there is not really anything that our son will be missing. We do go to church, he does have friends at church. My son also has friendships with our neighbors. |

| That is what a lot of people thing but it sounds like he does have friends and does socialize. Think of it this way. When I was in school I remember being told over and over again from teachers, "this isn't a class to be social so stop talking and pay attention." When in school do these kids have time to socialize? Maybe the 1/2 lunch and if the schools (some don't ) have recess for those 15 minutes. Also when in life will you be around and talk with people all the same age? Maybe if he understood that more he will come around. He may never though. I wish I could help you more. I am hoping other's will post to you too that might have a better idea of what to do. | I have actually joined a few social mommy groups in my area. Is there anything in your area that you could join? Some of the groups have special outings just for homeschoolers while others will have outings on the weekends for anyone who wants to go. I have my daughter in dance class right now and will be starting her in an art class during the week. The homeschool program I am starting allows my daughter to have a teacher that plans monthly outings for the students in our area. I think it's really up to the parents how much socialization they want their children to have. Check out the internet and your local community to see what is available. I joined one homeschool group on yahoo from my area. I hope this helps. |

| Speaking of local groups. I know in my area there wasn't a lot of options for homeschooling groups. So what I did was I joined a local MOMS Club. They totally support me in my decission to homeschool even if they don't. It has been a real blessing to my boy's and I. They even have mom nights out too. If you go to http://www.momsclub.org/links.html and see if there is one in your area. Even if it isn't listed email them and they maybe able to find a local chapter for you. |

| Thanks Jody, I am looking for a group that is free. I can donate my services as a teacher to the other moms as an exchange for a mom's night out. You are right, I do need to get together with other moms. The mothers in our church are not well organized or together so, something like that would be a real blessing. |

Yes, I have been looking for free home schooling clubs. There are some available for a small fee. I've checked into those clubs. I do need a break once in awhile. I'd be more than happy to teach their kids since I am a fully certified teacher if they would help me with mine or give me a small break. |
