I started this group because I am a police officers wife. my husband works for Pittsburgh, Pa police dept. He is also on the swat team and river rescue. He is always doing overtime or details. He rushes into buildings with the swat team. and on top of it all he works in the most dangerous area. I thought that when he made it safely back from Iraq that the scary part was over. But that is when he joined the swat team.
I get scared every night he goes to work. Especially since I had my son because now its not just me who would be left behind.
I just thought maybe there were some other parents out there in my same position that would like to share their stories and maybe blow off steam when needed. So welcome to the group.
Hi Jessie. Thanks for starting this group. I hope we can use it to vent, as you said, and relate on a whole different level than as parents (which is really important too).
I feel the exact same as you do. My husband works the night shift or "deep nights" for Dallas PD, in a not-so-safe part of town. I try not to think about it when he leaves for work at 11:30, but I just can't help but think that this is the last time I'll tell him I love him--morbid I know.
Our son is 18 months old and I will be making the transition to be a stay at home mom after Thanksgiving. My husband will start working overtime and possibly an extra job. We'll see how it works out.
How old is your son?
