Hey folks,
Do any of you have kids that throw themselves around in fits? My 11 month old daughter is an angel, but when she has her moments she really has her fun with it. One of her signature moves is the "throw back", which my wife and I have I think appropriately labeled. Its the one where she launches herself backwards subjecting her head to whatever gets in its way (normally the floor). It is the most concerning move in her arsenal, yet the other day she also managed to give herself a little shiner with a forward head butt to the toy chest. You would think that she would learn not to throw herself around after getting hurt a few times, yet she continues these actions with no self regard for her own safety. I've already spoken with some doctors and nurse friend who all claim that this is common and at times unavoidable for the child, but does anyone have any advice/suggestions on tactics to help my daughter and other kids in this stage? |

Yeppers. Aubrianna does that too. She's nearly 11 months. She "throws back" in her highchair when she's mad. Fortunately for us, that's the only time she really gets mad... and it's not too far back to the chair back. She does occassionally throw lil tantrums on the floor... but hasn't hurt herself yet. She's just started expressing her anger (other than crying). So I think it's really exciting to see new ways she tries to express her emotion. She does have shiners on all sides of her face though from crawling into things and falling over cruising. The poor child looks abused. I guess we just have to do our best to protect them from themselves at this stage. Predict when she's gonna get mad, and try to catch her. These are all new emotions and abilities for her.. and they will evolve. For now, I guess my advice would be to just protect her from hurting herself. And give her lots of hugs.

My daughter is already doing this at 8 months! She hates going into her carseat. The second I put her in it, she arches the back and throws back her head. I have a pre-madonna on my hands. My son was not like this when he was a baby. This is all new for me. Is it a "girl" thing? |

Hehe... My daughter has got some definite red in her hair. Maybe it's a red-head thing? |
