When to stop warming bottle
Hi all, my son is almost 3 months old and I do a combination of the breast and the bottle. However I am going to start weening when he is 3months old. I just wondered when it was ok to stop warming the formula. I have a car warmer but it doesnt work right. I travel to my moms alot and it takes about 5hrs so I was hoping to be able to just give him a bottle of room tempurature. What do all of you think.

Thanks
Jessie

i think it depends on the baby. my youngest couldn't handle a bottle that wasn't slightly warmed, i have read somewhere that it isn't nessisary to warm it at all ever. my kids just prefered it that way. so go ahead and try it and see how he likes it and if he can handle it, my daughter threw up alot whenever she had one that wasn't warmed. hope this helps

Hi Jessie! I also did a combo breast and bottle for our little guy and I think I stopped when I got tired of that step in the process - ha! ha! Actually, it was when I didn't have to refrigerate the breast milk any longer...so, when your milk has dried up and you have weaned your son totally to formula then I'd say gradually bring it to room temperature. Of course, every baby is different. He may take to it right away or it may take a few tries, but he'll eat when he's hungry enough. Promise!

I agree, every baby is different. My son gradually went from warmed milk to pretty much cold one. He loves cold milk (meanig straight from refrig) but will not take wamr one now. Just try and see what works for You both. There is nothing wrong with milk at room temp or even colder so as long as he takes it, go ahead. Though he may need slow transition.

At 3 months old, he will probably not even notice the difference between room temp. and warmed. Better to start them younger so your not warming it up untill he is a year.

Just the afterthought. I was warming his milk for some time when taken out of fridge. I was usually preparing few bottles of formula and stucked them there so at night I could just take out one, put it in the warmer for few seconds to bring it to room temp and voila. Plus the spring started and You don't want to spoil the milk, right? It's better cold than warmed and not good.

Thanks to all of you who replied. I have started giving him a room temp bottle and one time it was even a little cool. he seems to be taking it well and even might be starting to prefer it that way. Thanks again everyone.

Well my daughter is 1 now. I stopped breast feeding her at 3months as well. I definately don't think there is any specific rule, just whatever he likes. I went from breast feeding directly to room temp and she didn't even notice.

I asked my Pedi this when we went to one of his first well baby checks it may have been 3 or 4 mos, and she said I could do it anytime that they didn;t really even need it warmed up, It was so much eaiser because I know those car warmers are a pain. I used the Nursery Water and I left it out on the counter so it was room temp and he drank it all the same.
