My son who will be 11 months on the fourth started this whole thing a few weeks ago, his normal bedtime is at 8 but Ive kinda changed it to 9 because he doesnt want to go to sleep. He gets 1 nap a day and he just wants to party, I finally get him to sleep and he has been waking up like 2 times a night and not really wanting to go back to sleep, and he normally wakes up at 7 but lately its been 5 and he just is havin a good ol time. Im exhausted and was wondering if any of you ladies have suggestions of what I can do and when is a good time for him to sleep on his own because Ive tried that and its not working either. Please help!! |

I have 3 kids and this last one is the first one who is actually sleeping through the night. My second one is 21 months old and still wakes up at least 2 times during the night but I make sure that he has toys to play with in his crib. About an hour before bed time try to play with him alot to burn out the extra energy. Have a nite light in his room so he can play with some toys in the middle of the night and get up just to give him a bottle. I love the baby eistein videos, I have everyone they have made. When he gets up at 5am. Set up a playpen in front of the Tv and pop one of those in (the video is a 30 minutes long but you can set it up on repeat play, its great) and give him a bottle and go back to bed. That is what has worked for me with the first 2. Hope it helps. Good luck. |

Hi Courtney,
My son is 25 months and still does that. His bedtime is 7:30 or 8:00 and if he wakes up at 5 a.m. I take him right back to bed because if you give into them it will become a habit, I learned this the hardway, he eventually will go back to sleep and it may take me 30 min but he goes to sleep and sleeps usually till 7 or 8. Like your little one who is still in a crib I would just go in and check on him and tell him its still nite nite time and if he cries for a bit let him cry, if he didn't go to bed till 9 then he proabably hasn't got all his sleep in. |

This may sound crazy, but have you tried putting your son down earlier - like 7 or 7:30? A lot of times kids get a burst of adrenaline if they get overly tired. A couple books about sleep that I read really suggested that and suggested that we get in to a routine before bed. It seems to really help her understand what's going on when we start to put her to bed and she starts to yawn now when we start the routine. The "No Cry Sleep Solution" is a good book by Elizabeth Pantley that really helped me. Another thing they suggested was no rough housing or active play after dinner so the kids get a chance to wind down. (My husband always LOVED to toss my daughter around and tickle her before bed which always proved to be so frustrating when trying to get her to settle down.) I know this is kind of hard to control, but quiet activities like flashcards or reading a book or even dancing to some soothing or slow music are still busy activities that can help them to wind down.
Also, he could be teething again - I know my daughter was cranky getting new teeth around that time. Try Hyland's Teething Tablets (inspite of the false belladonna stories circulating the net) or Motrin. Motrin tends to make kids sleepy anyway. |

The earlier the bedtime the better to correct what seems to be a sleep deficit...he's probably way too tired. We've put Mark down at 6 and 5:30 on days when he's had an extra tiring day!...I would definitely say that the late bedtime is causing him to wake up, based on what I've read and experienced with my own son. You may need to try an extinction method, like I did at first to get him to sleep on his own, but it should work...go in after 5 minutes, then 10 minutes, the ferber method, I guess it's called...until he's put himself to sleep...fix it now or you'll have bigger problems later...my son is 17 mths and sleeps wonderfully! |

Thank you for all your suggestions, I put my son to bed early last night and he still woke up 2 times but then I just left him in bed with a bottle and he eventually fell asleep on his own, it was only the first night so I will keep trying. Thank You!! |
